Toys and Games Reviews of WowWee Tribot Talking CompanionCustomer Review: Surprisingly durable, entertaining and kid friendly robot Summary: 5 Stars
My 5 year old son received the tribot as a gift for Christmas. I was very concerned that this toy -- like many of the others we own -- would quickly end up busted and in the trash can. Surprisingly, the tribot is easy to maneuver, especially since the included remote control also controls the robot's movements by a mere twist of the wrist. My son can't read the buttons, but he can tilt the remote control forward, backward and side to side in order to make the tribot go where he wants it to go. Another surprise feature of the tribot is its uncanny ability to fall down stairs and crash/collide with other objects and yet still keeps on moving! The three wheels make the tribot a steady, solid toy that even kids younger than the recommended age of 8 years can enjoy without constant parental vigilance. My son does not use the customizable features of the tribot but he likes the homing feature, random roaming and alarm modes. Compared to the WowWee Femisapien robot, which my daughter received as a gift, the tribot is a GREAT buy for kids. The Femisapien is too complicated for kids to use (quite frankly, I can't figure out how to correctly use the "joy stick" arms) and requires careful handling. In sum, the tribot is a great toy for kids and adults alike and at its current price of $49.99, a real steal!
Customer Review: Shipped used merchandise Summary: 1 Stars
My sons wanted this robot so badly and I was so excited to see the bargain on Amazon. When I received the robot some of the things didn't look quite right on it. The wheels appeared scuffed and the hands look marked but I thought I was just being too analytical of the product. I took the robot and was about to place batteries in it tonight for christmas when the first thing I saw was the huge amounts of glue on the top which made me nervous. As I slide the robot out, I saw all the back attachments were heavily glued as well to the package box and the parts of the package that were torn, were also taped heavily. Now, I firmly believe I received an already used toy that was shipped to me. The outside of the main box said it was shipped from Japan. I was fuming for awhile since the person who sent it didn't even have the sense to hide the fact it's been used and obviously given back and now its 1 day before christmas and I don't have the toy either. I still would like to find the robot but I'm going to pay full price this time at toysrus or something just to make sure I don't get sent another used product. I'm NOT a happy customer about this.
Customer Review: Stay away from wowwee products Summary: 1 Stars
Do a google search for wowwee robotics, the number of people sold defective product is amazing. My own RV2 was purchased new from Radio Shack 3 years ago worked just fine until a week ago when the unit while turned off began to smoke and emit a sizzling sound, luckily I was home and nearby when it happened. I contacted wowwee robotics about it and was emailed (the only way to contact them) a reply that stated " Thank you for contacting wowwee. Please exchange item at the point of purchase." I had been very clear in my email about when the product was purchased, and my awareness of the defective wiring problem that the product line had, as well as the fact that replacements were being sent to owners of the defective product, as well as the fact that I cannot exchange it for another one since that model is no longer being made. Further attempts at contact were treated in a similar fashion. Apparently all the products this company produces are apt to failure due to defective manufacture in China. I would strongly recommend staying away from wowwee and their shoddy merchandise. It's not worth the money to gamble not getting a lemon.
Customer Review: A Very Fun Toy! Summary: 4 Stars
This was my #1 wish for Christmas and my husband bought it for me off Amazon - what a great price ($39). He read the reviews on Amazon and realized that there were some unhappy customers but for the price, it was worth the risk to buy me what I'd wanted. He also bought rechargeable batteries (we'd already planned to do so eventually so why not now).
When I opened Tribot on Christmas, I was so excited! He was exactly how I thought he would be based on the videos I'd seen on WowWee's site with a very likable voice. You can't expect TOO much from a $40 robot. He is going to be able to maneuver around, entertain you, but he isn't going to be able to perform brain surgery! In other words, lower your expectations and just enjoy how cool it is to have a robot.
You can play games with him (which are actually kind of hard), set him to be an alarm, set him into "guard" mode, move him around at will or just watch him move around. He says the cutest little things! I love it! And after 1 week of playing with him a little each day, he is still going strong with the batteries that we put in him on the first day.
Customer Review: Best WowWee Robot Yet!! Summary: 4 Stars
Of all the WowWee robots, I think Tribot is more fun than the Robosapien and far, far beyond WowWee Robotics RoboPanda. After being disappointed by Robopanda, we were really excited to see how Tribot would build off that failure.
Tribot does not look as human as WowWee Robosapien with Mini Robo - Silver, but it moves better, quicker, and more efficiently. The three-wheel configuration works great!! The biggest innovation is the tilt-sensitive remote control combined with a very intuitive remote which makes it much simpler to operate than Robosapien.
Like the RoboPanda, the sarcastic dialogue might get tiresome, but its not as immediately annoying. Still, there is something familiar and friendly with Robosapien's grunts. I wish Tribot had two modes to allow users to choose coherent or incoherent dialogue!! Uh-huh!!
