Toys and Games Reviews of WowWee Robosapien Humanoid Toy Robot with Remote Control

Customer Review: Not as fun or programmable as I would have expected.
Summary: 3 Stars

I had some birthday money to spend and decided to splurge on a Robosapien. I totally agree with the reviewer who said the novelty wears off quickly. I probably spent more time getting it out of the packaging than I did enjoying it. The "fart" wake up sequence gets annoying pretty fast. The remote control doesn't have nearly the capability the built-in functions do. E.g it would be impossible to program in the dance moves with just the remote. Also it seems to be not very durable. After only one week one of his arms seems to need extra help just to move to various positions.

The only redeeming quality of it is that my 18 month old loves it. She is always asking to see "Robo" dance. And gives him hugs and kisses. I imagine by the time she is 2 she will have out grown it.

BTW, the reviewer who said his robosapien "throws laundry" at him was lying or had a totally different model than me. The "throw" action is so slow (from the time it came out of the box) it barely drops the item it has in hand in fron of him.

In summary, play with it in the store and save your money for something more fun (like a pair of remote control cars).

Here is the deal...I am 29 years old. A little old you say for toys??? Perhaps. But then again this is not exactly a toy. If you have done any research on this product then you would know what I mean.
I wanted and received this for my birthday. One thing...it does get a little old. After you have explored the basic functions of Robosapien you may ask yourself "whats next?" The upside is alot. This is a fully hackable toy. There have been guys who have setup programs that enable them to operate Robosapien through there computer. There are quite a few people working on advanced programs and functions to make him work outside of the basic design. Now if you want just a toy it will suit that finction also. But if you expect it to clean your room it is not going to happen. But enjoy it for what it is and if you are so inclined, tweak it a little.
As a side note...ever since I have received Robosapien I am seriously starting to think about pursuing a career in electronics. The way I see it robotics are going to be the future much like computers have been and continue to be. Robosapien is a little glimpse into that future.

Customer Review: It gets too old too fast.
Summary: 2 Stars

It was December 25th, 2004. I knew I was going to get one. Then I did. I was soooo exited! After spending 20 minutes getting the thing out of its box, I found out I didn't have the right batteries. After hunting all over the house, I finally found them. Those batteries were too old. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH! Later that night, when everyone was finished opening presents, my uncle needed to go out for something, (can't remember what it was) and he brought my batteries back! I jammed them in the compartment and started playing with the thing. I had fun with it for about an hour, making it dance, burp, do karate chops, pick up the plastic cup that came with it, and annoying my sister with it. then I put it to the side and played with my other things. That was all the fun I ever really had with it.

Pros:

Cool-looking.

Funny.

Alot of commands.

Cons:

Can only pick up the cup that came with it, and maybe a paper towel roll.

too expensive; not worth it.

Gets old fast.

In a nutshell, this thing just isn't worth buying for $80+

Customer Review: RoboSapien--Full remote manupulation w/ programming
Summary: 4 Stars

The robot comes in White and also chrome and blue chrome [...]. Well built and duable and quite interesting. It has 64 functions and you can program them in any order you like stacking commands to trigger automatically when something touches the right or left arm of the robot or makes a sound.

I set it up under the Xmas tree so that if the cat or dog bothered it it would wake, step out, raise its arms over its head and roar in anger. This thing drives both animals a little crazy but that cat (a Birman) isn't afraid of it.

Now I am noticing the robot is up in my 14 year old boy's room sitting there much of the time. I haven't really seen him play with it. He is more interesting in going out and playing football with his pals. He says he likes it though and would be quick to give it up if he didn't. I would recommend it. It uses 4 D cell and 3 AAA cells in the remote. The batteries are in the feet which give it very low center of gravity. This thing walks like a sumo wrestler and it is very stable on its feet... I can't get it to fall over no matter what. Great toy!

Customer Review: the robosapian is awsome
Summary: 5 Stars

the suspician i had of my christmas present was right! i got a robosapian and it is so much more awsome than i ever could have imagined the pacaging wasn't that difficult to get off it took me and my dad about 10 minutes just use plyers to unscrew the zip ties. It might be a little frusterating but its well worth it! For those of you that are confused about weather to buy it or not if your expecting sompthing to bring you drinks and check the mail save up for a time machine.reasonable expections would be a TOY that will give you and your family a laugh and act as a good play TOY rather than a talking companion.Don;t expect any intelegence. One more thing alot of the negative comments I heard from other reviews i find not to be true like the chipping paint non of mine has peeld off mabye their to rough with their unit and the fact that the novelty wore off mabye its because im a kid but im still exploring many of his functions.there is 1 downside though i cant seem to get him to walk in a strait line i think one of my units legs are off centered is anyone else having this problem plz let me know
