Toys and Games Reviews of WowWee Robosapien V2 Full Function Humanoid Robot with Remote ControlCustomer Review: The Coolest Andriod On The Market Summary: 5 Stars
I found this Robosapien V2 used (RSV2). He was in need of some serious repair work when I got him. Fortunately Computers and Robots just happen to be one of my areas of specialty. Upon finishing repairs, I pushed the power button and that's when the fun just got started.
I had so much fun with this little guys that we kept each other entertain for hours. Robosapien V2 is like having an electronic human being in your house. He has four of the five human senses built in. He can detect stereo sound, has touch sensors to avoid obstacles, and sense human presence, and even a full color digital video camera mounted in his head, to detect skin tones and color recognition. RSV2 has over 100 pre programmed function and you can program him for custom functions, using program mode. Only I wish that Wowwee had done a better job making it so he can walk easier. Check out the videos I recorded of my Robosapien V2 on youtube:

My personal opinion is that this is really an adult toy, for robot collectors like me. It is a little too advanced for young children who cannot manipulate the remote controller or the robots commands very well. It is a good idea to keep him off of tabletops. He cannot detect table ledges like the Wowwee Roboquad can. Other than the walking issue, I would highly recommended this robot for ages 10 to adult. I love my Robosapien and he's not going anywhere, anytime soon. Because I'm a robot collector, I'm looking for robots on the internet all the time. I search thousands of online stores. So far I really can't find any other robot that can measure up to the Robosapien V2. This robot really can't be beat!
Customer Review: Robosapien V2 Real Fire Hazard Summary: 1 Stars
I bought a signature series robot last year, everything was fine until I went to turn it on one day and it would not come on. I collect vintage robots including Heathkit Jr., Hero-1, Omnibot 2000, Hearoid, & Androbot Topo robots. Of the new robots I collect 4 WooWee's and 2 Robosapien V2, one partially fixed now and the other in progress. I also work in the aerospace industry and have a bachelors in computers and electronics. The reason I'm giving you the extra info is so that you can find my review crediable. Now with the real review...Robosapien V2 is a FIRE HAZARD because the insulation on the wire harnesses that start at the battery compartments are crumbling, the problem is present on both legs. There are two balck wires and 2 red wires connectng to the Battery terminals tabs, a red and brown wire connecting to the foot motor, there is a board # 6028-17a with 7 wires with problems. There are a total of 13 wires leaving the foot all without the wire insulation. Each time people puts new batteries 6Ds and 4AAs the batteries short out, creating a lot of heat, enough heat to melt the plastic that surrounds the harnesses. If you are not a technical person, DON'T get this robot, instead get the Robosapien version 1. I contacted WooWee but never got a response about my problem, another reason not to get this robot. Scares me to know that companies don't check their products better before they put them for sale. There are several independent reviews on the Internet about the existing problem with the crumbling insulation on the wires and you can also check [...] for some videos showing you the extent of the Fire Hazard with this toy.
Customer Review: Gramps Review Summary: 4 Stars
I gave this toy to my eight year old grandson for Christmas. It was a joy to see his face light up with a great big grin as he removed the Christmas wrapping from the package. He started to take the package apart with all of the muscle he could muster up and it finally got the best of him. Then came his Uncle to his aid. My son is in his mid 30's and had a heck of a time getting the package apart also. Finally out came the knife to cut it apart and he was able to get all of the plastic packaging from around the robot. Whew...what a job that was, but still the robot was held fast to the inner package...out came the side cutters to cut the wires holding it and little by little he was able to free robo from it's bonds. In the mean time while all of this was going on...I saw that big grin that was on my grandsons face turn to disapointment. That was not a very happy moment for me I must say. I felt like I was the one that caused it buy getting him this robot.
Finally the batteries were installed and he got to play with it maybe 45 minutes after he first pulled off the wrapping paper.
It's a pretty cool toy for a kid and makes them think about how to get it to do the different tasks it can do.
My advice is if you are going to purchase this toy for someone else...take it out of the box first yourself. Give the kid a break.
Customer Review: Fire Caused By Crumbling Internal Wires, Bad Customer Service Summary: 1 Stars
Do a google search for wowwee robotics robosapien v2 problems, the number of people sold defective product is amazing. My own RV2 was purchased new from Radio Shack 3 years ago worked just fine until a week ago when the unit while turned off began to smoke and emit a sizzling sound, luckily I was home and nearby when it happened. I contacted wowwee robotics about it and was emailed (the only way to contact them) a reply that stated " Thank you for contacting wowwee. Please exchange item at the point of purchase." I had been very clear in my email about when the product was purchased, and my awareness of the defective wiring problem that the product line had, as well as the fact that replacements were being sent to owners of the defective product, as well as the fact that I cannot exchange it for another one since that model is no longer being made. Further attempts at contact were treated in a similar fashion. Apparently all the products this company produces are apt to failure due to defective manufacture in China. I would strongly recommend staying away from wowwee and their shoddy merchandise. It's not worth the money to gamble not getting a lemon.
Customer Review: Took 30 minutes to remove from box WITH WIRECUTTERS Summary: 3 Stars
Well, I guess I cant give a full review of this product other than saying we spent nearly an hour removing it from the package with all the tape, glue, quad-wrapped 18-GA wire that was taped over and wrapped to plastic strip studs, and cleaning up the sea of wire snippets, huge sharp plastic packaging and taped-to-hell cardboard. I think I counted 100 inches of tape before I gave up. If anything needs a warranty, its this toy as you remove it from the rediculous packaging. A 10-year old would cut right through the Robosapien's wire harness on each arm maybe thinking they were packaging wires.
Eight D batteries and 7 AA batteries prevented us from playing with this toy tonight... $30 for name-brand alkalines won't do; I'm getting rechargeables despite the slightly lower voltage rating. I just hope his interest in it will be more than his Version 1 he got last year...he "fell on it" (whatever that means) after 2 days and destroyed it. Hopefully this is more durable than the V1
