This is a great puzzle for anyone over the age of ten. Anyone younger would probably get frustrated with it too easily. Overall it very fun to solve, even if it does get mundane after you figure out the technique. It obviously takes more time to solve than the classic 3x3 cube, as well as the 4x4 cube, but once you know how, it definitely isn't any harder than either of them. The cube comes very stiff (hard to turn) from the factory, but after you play with it a while it tends to loosen up. The only gripe I have is about how easy it can be to "lock" the slices by not having them lined up right, but once you get used to it, you have the problem less and less. Suggested for anyone who enjoys a good challenge!Customer Review: My son hasn't mastered this one yet...

...and he's had it for a month now. He may have to get the online help in the end, but he is bull-headed and will wait a while before giving up, and will still say it is worth having.
All these Rubik's cubes are inexpensive, yet challenging and thought-provoking alternatives to hand held video games for long car drives of doctor's office waits, or any other circumstances when kids have "down" time on their hands. My son takes one to Boy Scout meetings as his troop never has enough business to keep them busy for the whole hour, and does not allow electronic toys to be brought.
I guess I'll have to start looking online for the 6 x 6 and 7 x 7 for next Christmas!

I enjoy solving the Rubik's 5x5, but this cube is very fragile. I feel like I'm going to break this thing by accident every time I play with it. Kinda makes it useless for speed cubing. The quality of this cube (or the lack thereof) is something you'd expect more from a cheap imitation made in some sweat shop in China that you'd find at the dollar store. You'd think that Rubik's would have the money, resources and the knowledge to build a more durable cube that is easy to move without it almost falling apart on you. Overall, I am rather disappointed in the quality and durability of the Rubik's 5x5. I've heard the V-cube is a way better design, so I might give that a try sometime.Customer Review: Very Fun to Solve

When I first took my 5x5 Professor cube out of the package I was a little concerned at how "loose" it felt. But now after MANY solves I have had no problems with it. This is a good product, but it is in no way for anyone interested in speed solving.
Many reviews complain about sticker quality on Rubik's brand cubes, but I have not had such issues. (I own a Rubik's brand 3x3, 4x4 and now 5x5) Although I will admit the sticker quality could be better, some reviews seem to claim that after a day or two of handing the cube the stickers were all but gone. This has not been my experience.
I would recommend this cube to puzzle enthusiasts young and old.

Like all Rubik's, it does take a good bit of time to break in for nice smooth movement. The 5x5 works precisely as expected, and was a lot of fun to work. Due to the shape and shear number of layers, the 5x5 does take a little extra care in moving - it is easy to have one row just far enough out of line to prevent a turn. Also, and important to note, due to the design it is possible to get a few of the squares in particular (think second row second column) twisted if you attempt to turn it while slightly misaligned. This hasn't caused any damage to mine, as we've always caught it beforehand - but someone just wrenching on your cube could easily twist one of these pieces off.
