Toys and Games Reviews of Rubik's 5X5 Cube

Customer Review: No problems with mine!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have no problems with my 5x5 cube. Yes, it sometimes comes apart if not properly aligned when turning, but no more so than a well used 3x3 cube. This is not a cube used for speed cubing. If this is your intention, you will be very frustrated because it will have turning problems due to the mere fact that there are many more pieces that have to be aligned for proper turning. This will always be a problem, no matter what the internal design. You just have to live with it. As far as the stickers are concerned, mine are fine. I have not had the same sticker problems as others.

I figured out the 3x3 on my own without reading a book. I have seen others solve their cube with the "book" solution method and my method is COMPLETELY different. I was able to solve the 4x4 and the 5x5 using similar techniques as the 3x3. I am curious to find out whether the "book" solution for the 3x3 carries over to the 4x4 and 5x5.

Customer Review: Minor Shipping Issue
Summary: 5 Stars

I got the product within a good amount of time, the only problem was the condition of the box when it arrived to my house.

I don't know who Amazon uses for their shipping but they might want a better quality control system or something. The box, when I found it, showed evidence of being smashed. The corners were all indented and one of the sides looked like an accordian. The top of the box was halfway open and the tape was barely holding down the other side. The box, which was laying on its side on my doorstep could easily be seen into. If I had ordered something that could be considered even slightly "fragile" it would have no doubt been broken.

Though the product I ordered was unharmed, I would like to see a change made in the shipping procedures.

This was the first time I have ordered something from Amazon and I would have to say that I was less than impressed.

Customer Review: Colors Peel Off Too Easily
Summary: 4 Stars

I don't know why I didn't buy one of these sooner. Just to look at it through the packaging is worth any reasonable full price. The process of solving it is a combination of solving the 3x3x3 and the 4x4x4 cubes, though I haven't actually solved it yet; there's a little more to it than that. There are a few websites out there that supposedly step you through the solution of the Rubik's 5x5x5 "Professor's" Cube, but understanding and interpreting the written instructions seems to take as much skill as figuring it out by yourself.

The thing that disappoints me most about this particular cube is how easily certain stickers start to peel off. I had to go out and buy some super glue to stick the peeling corners of the top layers of the stickers back down. It's not the kind of thing you want to get up and do less than a day after you've started playing with this very cool toy.

Customer Review: Gently is the word
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading some of the reviews on this cube, I found myself wondering if it could be as bad as they say. So simply out of curiosity I ordered it. It arrived about a week later and the packaging was quite stunning. I had never seen it like that but anyway. After messing it up several times and solving it, it seems to be quite durable. Now I have had it for about a month or so and solved it 50+ times and it has only loosened up. I can only notice one sticker that is starting to peel. Be sure to realize that this is not for speed cubeing, but more for the reaction on a persons face when they walk through the door and say "You know how to solve that thing?!" Its quite a good feeling when you can say yes. (You solve it just like a 4x4 then 3x3 except with one additional step.) But like I said "Gently" is the word for this product.

Customer Review: Much Fun
Summary: 5 Stars

About 2 months ago I bought a 3X3 and decided to solve it. The first time, it took me about one hour to solve. In three weeks I was down to just under one mineut, not fast by some standards, but it was fun. I then turned to the 4X4 cube. This one was a little more of a challange. It took me about 4 hours to solve this one for the first time. Finally I moved on to the 5X5. This one took me one hour to solve the first time and I am now down to about 5 mineuts to solve (mostly because you are not able to turn it very fast without tearing it up.) This one is no harder than the 3X3. In fact if you can solve a 3X3, you can sove this cube with the same algorithms joint with simple intuition. Overall very much fun. And a great way to waist a couple mineuts if your bored of the spherical nature of everything around you.
