Toys and Games Reviews of Pass the PigsCustomer Review: Pass the Pigs Summary: 5 Stars
My father has loved Pass the Pigs for years, ever since we played the game at a friend's house. We had the game ourselves for many years before it went missing [my mother denies throwing it out, so it really is a mystery]. When I found it online, my father was overjoyed that we could play the game again. The premise is quite basic, you roll the pigs as you would dice and gather points depending on how they land. It seems like a gamble, but it involves remembering what the various positions equal point-wise [there is a card for those who have a bothersome memory, but to survive at my house, it is better to know the points without consulting anything] and knowing when it is time to stop, because a "pig out" involves you losing all the points that you have accumulated during that turn. As a tool to teach moderation, it is first rate.
I would suggest this game to any one who asked me for something not too taxing, but still engaging ang fun.
Customer Review: Swine Time! Summary: 3 Stars
After receiving this as a gag gift from a friend I thought that is was going to be a total blow. As it turns out this game can be fun for kids ages 3-103 and beyond. The rules are simple to follow and younger players may need help with the math from an older brother or sister when keeping score, but hey, who doesn't need to sharpen up on their math skills? Baring a resemblence to dice game, Pass The Pigs adds humor by giving yopu little rubberized pigs instead of traditional dice. This game makes a great travel game, and comes in a wallet like plastic container that makes it easy to carry and even easier to store in say the back pocket of a seat or in a nightstand drawer. Fun for one player or your whole gang...but buyers beware, once the initial addiction stage wears off, the game will become a dust collector in a closet somewhere. The concept gets old after continous play, and rolling those no longer adorable pigs becomes boring instead of fun.
Customer Review: A game for all ages. Summary: 5 Stars
I remember this game from my childhood and just had to have another copy. The company that reissued this game did a great job with the storyline and the rules. The aditional ways to play the game were quite interesting very fun to be able to bet your points against your friends and family by trying to guess what their next toss will be.
The card game that was included however was printed on what I would concider poor quality very thin card stock, it was a freebee and I am not much interested in that part, I think I put that somewhere in another box and havent looked for it sence.
I would encourage that you have an extra note pad to keep your score however, The included scorepads are very small and are very hard to read or even write in if you have big hands and are not very dexterious. Also when you pig out "Loose all your points" It can be fustrating erasing everything so you dont waste the scorecards for those out of town trips.
Customer Review: Bad Redesign Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this for a friend since she has grandkids, too - and our family LOVES the original of this game, which I guess is no longer being made.
Though the game itself is a lot of fun, my problem with this version of it is the VERY poorly redesigned case. Not only is it 3 - 4 times larger (making it bulkier to take along for waiting in restaurants, our favorite place to play), but the case does not slide as it should. It took 4 adult family members about 10 minutes to get it to slide open the first time. Also, once you do pull off the miraculous feat of opening it, getting everything back in so it will close fully afterward also takes a person with a degree in architecture. I'm pretty sure that whoever designed this case never actually TESTED it before marketing it.
If you plan on playing at home and can just leave it out of the case, it's a great game. Otherwise, major frustration!
Customer Review: wonderful for all ages Summary: 5 Stars
Pass the Pigs is a variation on Yahtzee, with the fun little pig dice being thrown into different combinations with various point values. It's a great game to take on trips, or to pull out when entertaining children of various ages; everyone can enjoy it. I've played with children as young as 4 and had a fine time. Although the rules of the game rely on the player taking a turn until he or she determines that luck is about to run out (at the risk of losing all accumulated points), this can easily be modified (esp. for younger children) so that each player throws the dice in turn and records points. The educational value is in using mathematical skills, and pattern recognition skills, for younger players. This game is very durable, but it would be a sad day indeed if the little pigs were ever lost. Luckily, all the parts (pigs, score pad, pencil) fit into a neat little case.
