We purchased this set about four years ago, and it made teaching the children chess so easy. We never used it as the instructions specified; instead, we simply placed one of each card in front of the children so they could keep referring back to it. The cards are colorful and easy to read and understand. The kids were playing by themselves within a week! They do outgrow the use of the cards quickly, but I think that speaks volumes for how effective they are as a teaching tool. The children's chess club at our library used it in the same manner, again, with excellent results.Customer Review: Great way to learn!!!

This is a great chess set to learn with; I bought it for my son for us 5th birthday, he had been begging us to teach him chess. Within 3 evenings of playing he is comfortable with how each piece can move and has learned some basic rules. I bought this along with the book Chess for Kids which also provides scenerios and exercises to learn strategy. I have been amazed at how quickly he has picked up the game.
I think the manufacturer indicated a 7 year old and up age on this because it helps is at least one player can read the cards.

I got this for my son's 7th birthday last month and the whole family loves it! Even my 5 year old likes to play now. It's an ingenious way for them to learn what the pieces do. Most important, it is a very fun way for them to play (the "no-stress" name is spot-on!) It doesn't get into much strategy; perhaps a different product would be better suited for more advanced play. But even my husband and I play (without the cards) because it has re-introduced us to the game. This is a great product.. probably one of my top-five recommendations for friends.Customer Review: Great Way to Learn!

I've wanted to learn to play chess for years, and tried. But it always seemed like too much to remember at one time. This game makes it so easy.
I would have given it five stars except for one thing that really bothers me in a quirky way. The grammar on the cards is incorrect. It tells you to move a certain "amount of spaces." It should be "number of spaces."
Three of my household members have begun playing the first night after it arrived. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an easy way to learn to play chess.

The pieces in this set are utter junk. Think of that hollow unbalanced set at the thrift store for .50, and that is what they coupled this game with. I am returning this because its to light weight. You are really paying $15 or so for cards. If this was simply a pack of cards for $7 bucks I would have kept it. The makers of this don't realize how important the feel of moving a chess piece is. I started on a decent semi weighted set and can remember how they feel 30 years later. All in all a great concept but terribly executed. Bad deal!
