Toys and Games Reviews of No Stress Chess

Customer Review: No Stress Chess is perfect for someone who wants to learn how to play the game of Chess
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought No Stress Chess as a gift for a 5 year old. I'm also a beginner in the game of chess. I've had a chance to play No Stress Chess and it's exactly what it is described as..."no stress". The board have two sides - one for total beginners and the other side for the more experienced player. The beginner's side of the chess board have all the position named, so that the player doesn't have to keep guessing as to what goes where. It also comes with a deck of cards with the name of the pieces and it describes how each piece moves. In just a short time, a player can advance to playing chess without the deck of cards. Perfect for beginners... I highly recommend this game!

Customer Review: Two boys' review: How we learned to play chess and have fun with Papa
Summary: 4 Stars

Our family has played No Stress Chess for several months now. Our 5-year old and 4-year-old dove right in initially and we played this game night after night for the first couple of weeks. We still pull the game out now about 1-2 times per week, but we don't use the cards.

The reason I gave this only 4 stars instead of 5 is that the cards don't provide more information to transition beginners from the basic moves. The game should've included more tips to extend the usefulness of the playing cards.

Still, at $14, this is a great investment in family fun. The flip side of the board can continued to be used as a standard chess board.

Customer Review: Good entry point, but...
Summary: 3 Stars

I just received this as a gift for my 5y.o. son. It seems like a good guide for teaching the basic moves of the pieces and for setting the board up. My son quickly memorized the order for the pieces on the board and has quickly caught on to how they move. For one that tends to not like to sit still I enjoy being urged to play a game. So this game has captured his imagination, or should I say it has placed it in check-mate? However, the game does fall short on teaching some of the finer points -- castling, en passant. The game also encourages too aggressive play with the king. It takes what is a game of skill and converts it into a game of luck.

Customer Review: Great For Teaching Children Chess
Summary: 5 Stars

I this for my son last Christmas when he was 5. He had some interest in learning how to play, but had a very hard time remembering how the pieces moved (probably because he is 5). I was looking for some reference cards to help him remember and ran across this product. After a couple of weeks of playing the "draw one card" way he wanted to move right on to playing the "real way". He loves playing Chess now! He can think several moves ahead and really understands how each piece moves. The only drawback of this item is that now I have to play Chess all the time! Awesome product especially for anyone learning how to play no matter how old you are.

Customer Review: Great fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the perfect solution! My 7 year old daughter has desparately wanted to play chess with her dad and brother. Her brother learned chess in spite of his dad's teaching. (My husband just does NOT have the patience to teach!) But, at 13 he does not have the patience, yet, to even play a stressful game like chess with her.

With no stress chess, we've all played games together, with no tears and no yelling. My daughter has a good understanding of the pieces and their moves, and she's beginning to pick up strategy. She and her brother actually played a real game of chess, with no conflicts!

Terrific product!
