Toys and Games Reviews of No Stress Chess

Customer Review: My 6 yr old loves this game
Summary: 5 Stars

My six year old is completely new to chess. The cards made this game quickly understandable to him. He is learning the moves without needing to understand too much of the strategy - but enough to play the game as it's designed. He even figured out how to win in 2 moves if he draws bishop then bishop. Eventually we'll play the more advanced version where you can choose from between several cards. What he's learning now is a great start to expand on in the future.

Everyone, adult and child, enjoys playing it. The experienced chess player likes the variation because it takes the game into unexpected turns and even more likes that a once reluctant chess playing child will now ask to play this. Even if you don't know much chess yourself, you can learn and enjoy this game.

Customer Review: Big Winner for 5-year-old
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this game for my 5-year-old for Christmas and it is by far the most played-with gift he received. It is so effective in teaching young children the game of chess and building confidence in their own abilities. Even Level 1 (each player must pick and play off of one card each turn) involves some strategy so kids pick up on this important aspect of the game while learning the basic rules. After just one week without prior exposure to the game, my son knows how to move each piece and is getting better and better at strategic play. Is this an heirloom chess set? Absolutely not -- and it wasn't intended to be. It's a great first set that can build skills, understanding and confidence. I am shocked that he plays with it more than his video games -- enough said?

Customer Review: We're gettin it!
Summary: 5 Stars

When my husband expressed interest in learning how to play chess and asked if I would want to learn, I decided to find something that would help us learn together. Different friends have talked about books but this game is perfect. The 2 sided game board provides the opportunity to learn and then flip over for the 'real thing'. The cards help you learn the moves for each piece clearly and simply. The game has 3 levels of learning play and then allows you to play a standard chess game. We're on level 2 right now and we're really enjoying learning the moves and strategy in an easy, fun, and hands on way. I can't imagine using a book, this makes the learning fun! I would highly recommend it for young and old who finally want to learn this classic game.

Customer Review: Surprisingly Effective for Learning & Playing Chess
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this for my 6 year old son since I was frankly bored with checkers and wanted to get him into a more sophisticated game. This turned out the be the perfect choice. The cards visually depict the possible moves for each piece so reading is not required. He quickly learned the names of all the pieces, the possible moves, and - most importantly - we both had fun playing. We played 6 games the first night and 4 games the second. For the 10th game we decided to play without the cards and he was able to play the entire game from memory - not once needing my help on how to move the various pieces. Needless to say, I highly recommend this product for teaching your child to play a great game.

Customer Review: Chess for preschoolers
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great game to teach your young children some basics of chess, even if you have never played before! On each card, there's a picture of a chess piece, arrows showing how it can move, and a written description. You play by picking a card and moving that specific piece, if possible. If you pick a card for a piece that is "trapped" or cannot move, you just pick another card until you can move something. My 4 year old daughter can play it and win! Your kids start to learn the names of the pieces and the different ways they can, and cannot, move on the board. This is a great game for the whole family to start learning to play chess. It's been fun and educational.
