My 10 year old son just got this game for Christmas. His friend at school played chess and he was wanting to learn as well. Nobody in our family knew how to play so I bought this for him. Within the first hour he had moved past level one with his 13 year old brother. Now 24 hours later the entire family can play the game without the aid of the cards. I still leave one of each card out just as a reminder on what piece can move in what way. Not only for me but also saves on any arguements between the kids when one is getting ready to lose. I this for my son last Christmas when he was 5. He had some interest in learning how to play, but had a very hard time remembering how the pieces moved (probably because he is 5). I was looking for some reference cards to help him remember and ran across this product. After a couple of weeks of playing the "draw one card" way he wanted to move right on to playing the "real way". He loves playing Chess now! He can think several moves ahead and really understands how each piece moves. The only drawback of this item is that now I have to play Chess all the time! Our seven year old son has had a great time learning how to play chess with this set. Using the cards, he really learned how all the chess pieces move. When playing using the cards, he is able to win the game which would not be possible for a beginner player playing a traditional chess game.Customer Review: Could be a better deal

The pieces in this set are utter junk. Think of that hollow unbalanced set at the thrift store for .50, and that is what they coupled this game with. I am returning this because its to light weight. You are really paying $15 or so for cards. If this was simply a pack of cards for $7 bucks I would have kept it. The makers of this don't realize how important the feel of moving a chess piece is. I started on a decent semi weighted set and can remember how they feel 30 years later. All in all a great concept but terribly executed. Bad deal!
