Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly 1935

Customer Review: Modern day flouts tradition...no suprise there.
Summary: 4 Stars

The Monopoly game referred to as the "1935 1st Edition" leaves something to be desired and I haven't even ordered it yet.
If you click on the image that shows the game with the contents layed out there's something wrong with the picture, and if you can't spot it right off, then you have no idea what the origonal moopoly game looked like. My mom had an origonal version of the game which was handed down to her ancestorally and over the years with moving and what not most of it got lost, she does however still have most of the money. And guess what, the money you have displayed with your so-called first edition should be a little bit smaller and some of them should be different colors. I don't have the money in front of me for reference but that is definately modern money. And I cant say for sure but those houses and hotels look to still be plastic. The origonals were wood. Just FYI.

Customer Review: Minor Complaints
Summary: 4 Stars

This Monopoly game was exactly what I was looking for. I was impressed with the durable wooden property houses and metal player pieces. The "Chance" and "Community Chest" cards are neat too because they are relevant to 1930's history.

There are only two things I can think of that they could have done a better job with. First of all, there aren't enough houses and hotels. I played a full-length game with several others, and by the end of the game we were using household jiblets to signify houses and hotels. Secondly, the property prices are not printed on the board. The game comes with a paper sheet that lists property values. It was cumbersome to have to keep referring to and easy to lose track of.

Customer Review: Oldie but not goodie
Summary: 1 Stars

The original monopoly game sounded fun, but what you get is the alpha version of monopoly. There have been several upgrades to make the game more playable in the form we now know it. In the original version the board does not have the cost of the property indicated. The property cards do not have the backside printed with the pertinent mortgage information. The original tokens are not that exciting. So all in all the later versions have been upgraded to enhance playability.

Even in board games the later versions are superior.

Customer Review: Lots of Fun!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The original 1935 Monopoly replica game has been fun to play with my friends. We live in a vintage building here in Chicago, and it's just sort of fun to play with the same look and feel of the original Monopoly game that may have been played sometime through the years in our home. The quality of the game board and individual pieces is much better than I expected, and I shopped around! You won't find a better price anywhere.

Thank you very much!
Jeff

Customer Review: Not accurate to the original
Summary: 4 Stars

The original houses and hotels were made of wood (not plastic), and the money provided is not like the original, the patterns on them were much different. There was no plastic money holder (it was cardboard), and though I can't tell from the picture, the back of my original Monopoly board is like a jean-like material. I also don't recall the dog being one of the original pieces, either.
