Customer Review: the loudest card game you'll ever play
Summary: 5 Stars

We used to play this when I was a teenager. We had a family of seven (five kids). All of us could play this. Once we were on vacation and in a hotel room and this game almost got us kicked out of the hotel! You play by trading commodities on the market. this happens simply by holding out however many cards you want to trade and saying "two" or "three", etc. As you trade, you try to get a corner on the market. You are also trading a bear and bull. When you play with any more than three players, things get really tense (especially if you are as competitive as we all were.) When that happens everyone gets louder and louder and then someone finally hits the bell and yells "PIT!".
I'm not sure how educational it was, but we always had a blast. When we get together now we still talk about how much fun we had. this may not be an appropriate game for a family with young children as the competetiveness that makes it great, also makes it very tense and loud. Our kids have just gotten to the age that we don't feel so bad when we trade a bear and they get stuck. When they were younger we always let them win games. That wouldn't work here.

Customer Review: An excellent trading game
Summary: 5 Stars

Pit is a classic trading game, one that defines its genre. Cards come in sets of nine, and after the deal, one tries to trade sets to get all nine cards of a set. There is no restriction on the order or number of trades, only that trades are made for equal numbers of cards. Thus players yell "three, three, three!" or "two, two!" in an effort to snag the right cards.

The game is a classic because this open-ended form of trading is such a great mimic of the real trading floor. Players yell, wave frantically, or mistakedly drop cards in an effort to trade. It's a great game for a cold night or a raucous party. Just be prepared to lose your voice.

There are also two special cards: a Bull (matches any set) and a Bear (matches nothing). These add to the excitement, but often a player's face will give away the fact that they just received the Bear.

The Winning Moves edition is great. It comes with the handy steel bell to open and close trading which helps to end arguments on who finished first. Pit is a fun trading game for all ages.

Customer Review: Yelling TWO, TWO, TWO! Great family game for all ages!
Summary: 5 Stars

As I type this review, my kids (young adults) and their grandparents are playing Pit. The grandparents introduced us to this game and we often play at their house. When I saw this DELUXE version of Pit, that comes with a bell, I just had to get it for them!

A simple game to learn, ALL ages can enjoy this game together. 7 year olds could play this game and the adults don't necessarily have an advantage over the kids, which makes it fun for everyone.

Be ready to be LOUD - right now I can hear shouts of "Three, three, three" and laughter and I'm not even on the same floor as the Pit-Players!

I read in another review that this game was introduced in 1904. Obviously, this is a game that has staying power! Isn't it great that even with modern technology which allowed me to purchase this game online, we can enjoy games that were invented decades ago!

Turn off the TV, and spend time with your family playing games. Go make some memories!

Customer Review: Grew up with this game!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the game we grew up playing. The only thing was we never played with the bell. The way we would play is if there were 6 people playing we would put 5 spoons in the middle of the table. You would trade back and forth and the first person would would get their had full of one thing would grab a spoon. Then everyone would try and grab for a spoon. That is when the fun would begin. There were not enough spoons for everyone so the person without a spoon would lose the game. You should of seen the wrestling matches for spoons! The best was if you got your matches first you would quietly take a spoon and just sit there quietly while everyone kept trading. They would be too busy trading to notice that you were done but once one person noticed the grabbing for spoons would begin.

This was a LOUD and FUN game to play!

Customer Review: Ok game - but not as enthusiastic as everyone else !
Summary: 3 Stars

The family has gotten hooked by card games. We're playing mille bornes, Five Crowns, Uno, Loot, etc. We bought Pit at the same time as the other games. My 6 year old loves it the best as, like reviewers will tell, lots of yelling and trading cards. For the rest of us, including a 10 year old, the novelity wore off in a few days.

Each game only takes a few minutes with 4 players. The object is to keep trading cards until you have a complete set of 9. It's not very hard to do and is mindless - just trade away the cards you don't need. The yelling and the bell does make it as fun as this game can be. But, for a longer, more involved game, with a hint of using your brain, there are far better choices than Pit. We'll still play it for laughs, but it certainly won't get the play time of the others we play.
