Toys and Games Reviews of Wild Planet Hyper Dash

Customer Review: Ours isn't RFID at all - are there different versions?
Summary: 3 Stars

We received this toy as a Christmas gift, and as a tech geek I was eager to see it in operation - but I was surprised to find that our targets looked very different from the ones shown in Amazon's pictures. A little inspection demonstrated that our Hyper Dash game didn't apparently use RFID at all!

Instead, portions of the targets are different heights, and the base has 3 hidden buttons that use the different heights to tell the difference between the targets. I noticed the date on our box said 2006, but web searching didn't indicate that there had ever been a non-RFID version of this game. Is there old stock of this game that is non-RFID? Or has the game been changed to this mechanical version? Either way it's not as represented in the Amazon description - a serious disappointment for a tech geek.

We've also had a problem with the menu button only working intermittently, so we're probably going to be sending this back for replacement. The lack of RFID and the defective menu button lost this a couple of review stars - hopefully it will be the RFID version we get back!

(These issues aside, the game is definitely good family fun - that's why we're going for a replacement rather than a return. I'm hoping the RFID targets will be a little easier to tag than the mechanical ones.)

Customer Review: Double becomes a single
Summary: 3 Stars

My children got the double Hyper dash for Christmas from Grandma. Only one of the wands works. The other will turn on, but will not recognize any targets and just goes back to the main menu or shuts off completely. New batteries did not help.

In this game, you set up the four targets whereever you want. Then you set the game to play with how many players you have. The wand calls out a color and you run to it and hit the target with the wand. Then it will call out another. Once you finish the course (averages 45-60 seconds, depending on how close you put the targets to each other), it tells you your time. Once all players have completed it, it repeats all the times and announces the winner. There are other modes that call out the target by number, or it will say reverse (which means you go back to the last target) or by math problem (7-3, so you have to strike 4).

So far, the other wand hasn't broken, and the kids enjoy it. I like that it's not another "sit down and stare at a screen toy". This gets the kids up and running around. It's good exercise but it's fun too. I would recommend this toy, but I do wish the other wand worked.

My sister got this for her kids too, and just like mine, only one wand worked. I'd rate it 4-5 stars if both wands worked.

Customer Review: Super product--tons of fun--my kids loved it!!! Needs a Volume Switch
Summary: 5 Stars

The Hyper Dash was a HUGE HIT in our household. It kept our VERY active 9 year old boy busy, happy and excited for a long, long, long time! He repeatedly ran around the house placing the colored pods, then racing to tag them as fast as he could. He kept trying to beat his last time. He played until he finally collapsed of fatigue clutching the Hyper Dash controller to his chest. When his twim sister came along, they enjoyed playing it together for an equally long time--they switched the music and the modes to play several different ways. HYPER DASH is great to play with lots of kids, too. The math function is great for reinforcing school homework drills in a fun way. Our daughter loved that feature and, so, do we. I hope the pods don't break before our son gets interested in the math feature--. TOO BAD it doesn't have a VOLUME switch--the controller's VOICE is pretty LOUD and can become annoying when played indoors. I also wish the pods could stack together inside the controller for storage, it would be more convenient and help keep all of the pieces together--something I'm always trying to do when new games come into our home. I heartly recommend Hyper Dash for everyone-your kids will love you for it!

Customer Review: Fun for the Entire Family
Summary: 5 Stars

We got Hyper Dash as a birthday present for our 12yo son, but the entire family has had so much fun with it. There are various games you can play with it, and the fact that it is a physical toy is definitely a plus- especially in the cold months when outdoor activity is not always possible. Our favorite game is the memory type game that resembles a Simon in that the toy prompts you to tag a number/color and each time you get it right, it adds a new one. The targets can be spread out or set up close together depending on how much room you have and how much you are willing to run.

We also like the fact that it has a one-player mode as well as the option for multiple players. Also there are varying difficulty levels which make if fun for littler ones, while at the same time, challenging for older kids and adults. The hand held unit verbally announces the times for each round as well as the winner- "player one wins the round", so there is always lots of competition between us as we try to beat one another's times.

Overall, this is a really fun, durable toy that requires various levels of physical activity depending on how you set up the targets. The games are fun and challenging as well. Definitely a keeper!

Customer Review: Worth EVERY Penny!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this game for something to do inside, with the kids, in the winter months. I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. We LOVE this Game! My husband and I get plenty of exercise playing the Hyper-Dash game with the boys! The object is to spread the 5 colored discs around the house, and you are to run to the color that the hand held controller calls out. Whoever has the fastest time wins! This has 4 different games. One other game is a solitare sit down game as well, where it calls out a sequence of colors that you have to remember from the begining to the end. (Much like the Simon game - for those of you who may be familiar with Simon) This has helped my 3 year old with his colors and his memory as well! A game the whole family can get into! I have decided that it will be fun to play out doors when it's warm enough. Since you can have teams, it will be a great game to have on hand for family get-togethers and birthday parties, teachers classrooms and Youth church groups! I have to say this is one game my kids beg to play consistantly, and it's been worth every penny! I've decided to get this game for all my nephews and nieces this year for either their birthdays or Christmas!
