Toys and Games Reviews of Newton's Cradle 5.5"Customer Review: Fun and worthwhile Summary: 4 Stars
This toy is great even for younger kids. I wouldn't recommend it for very young kids, but show a child how it works. Not only will they think the balls swinging from side to side are neat, but later on they will be able to realize what was happening when they take a physics class. This toy can be somewhat addictive, spending quite literally hours watching the balls swing even though you know the outcome. You could very easily give this as a gift for someone you love or keep it at work for people that stop by. What I love most about the Newton's Cradle is my dad had one when I was a little boy, and it is one of the few things I remember him playing with. It is something you can easily get another person involved with minimal complications. So enjoy, and share ur Newton's Cradle with anyone!
Customer Review: DOESN'T FUNCTION PROPERLY Summary: 1 Stars
First of all, I don't see a Newton's cradle as a toy. Newton created it to display certain laws of physics
Second; I'm not happy with this product. The center ball is supposed to stay stationary and the outer balls are suppused to continue rocking back and forth in perpetual motion for at least a long period of time. The one I recieved wouldn't maintain the intended action for even a minute.
A Newton's cradle was always a thing of beauty to me. I finally bought one for the first time. This one. And upsettingly it didn't perform or bring the calming sensation I always felt when I've been around a fully functioning one.
But at least I have one now to look at. It's a good decerative peace. So it's not all bad.
Customer Review: A fun diversion... Summary: 4 Stars
My 8 year old daughter played with ones of these at school and was really jazzed to get one at home. We looked through the Amazon offerings and settled on this one.
I informed her that this toy wasn't going to hold her attention long, but she was undeterred. Long story short, we've placed the Newton's cradle on our living room table so the whole family can play with it - which we do (more often than I care to admit :).
Nothing fancy about this model over the others. It works well and only gets tangled up if you go bonkers with it.
Final score: Kid 1, Dad 0
Customer Review: Not for kids. Summary: 3 Stars
The kids really love to play with this toy. This is a problem in that, left alone, young kids will have the strings tangled in no time. So, unless you enjoy spending hours untangling monofilament fishing line, keep an eye one the kids while they play with this toy. I had a group of cub scouts destroy this toy in the matter of 10 minutes.
The only metal part of this toy are the metal balls, everything else is plastic or fiberboard. I would not recommend or purchase again.
Customer Review: Junk! Summary: 1 Stars
The product we got does not look like the one in the picture. Our base was black and the metal portion had two horizontal rods that were supposed to fit in the base. Unfortunately, one of them was broken. The line is very week - feels like 1-lb fishing line and stretches very easily. On arrival, one of the strings was already snapped. The base was heavy, but the rest of the product was cheaply made.
