I have always wanted a fiber optic lamp, but on a tight budget it was sort of silly to consider. I saw this one, and when the price dropped I very very hesitantly bought one.
Hesitant because: Battery Powered, Conflicting but all in all a lot of cautions about it's cheapness/longevity and even if it really had a plug for any an adapter.
FIRST: IT IS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT AND FLIMSY. However mine arrived in it's packing tube (slightly mangled tube/box, but carefully removing it, I made sure the lamp was not damaged.
I thought I might drop it and it would break - so I was extra careful. Of course I did drop it (twice actually) and it didn't break or anything.
It does run on 3 AA batteries. I figured I would use rechargeable since I wanted it on all the time.
There was a tiny (I mean tiny tiny) hole in the base for a small adapter and it had a voltage listing.
I just happened to remember I had a USB to power cord I picked up somewhere on-line for under a dollar, thinking it was something all together different. It fit snug and tight and I plugged the USB end into a 99c plug adapter sold as an "i-pod" recharger - but it can and I have used it to power all kinds of USB gadgets.
It powered the lamp (I took out the expensive rechargeable battery for some cheap AA) and However "Cheap" or "Flimsy" or "Light weight" or even the possibility of the fiber optic falling out ..... I don't plan on moving it around and all those things may be true, but don't matter if I have it working, it looks fabulous and there is no reason to worry what might happen in the future ... as long as I don't mess around with it for no reason.
Will try to post a photo of the USB to 4v adapter which you can find on the internet for a dollar or two and how good the lamp looks.
I AM THRILLED I DID DECIDED TO RISK IT. IT'S WHAT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED.
