Toys and Games Reviews of Wise and OtherwiseCustomer Review: Great fun! Summary: 5 Stars
I had never heard about this game prior to viewing it on Amazon.com. I wanted something fun for holiday gatherings and decided to try it based on other reviews. We played this game at our Christmas party and were gripped with laughter many times during the course of play. I am amazed at some of the answers people create! We laughed for days afterward, and are still making jokes about some of them. Best played with a group of four or more. Team play is also fun...we had a blast with it, and intend to play again and again! What a great stress-reliever too -- you just keep laughing and nothing else matters but the fun you're having at that moment! Try it! =)
Customer Review: Fun across generations Summary: 4 Stars
We have played this game with our family ranging in age from 9-13, adults 40+. We have enjoyed it. The best feature is that it has no "trivial" knowledge requirements, therefore it is not threatening to people who are hesitant to play games in mixed groups of people. We played with grandparents, friends of the family and all enjoyed the time together. Players must invent endings for beginning words of wisdom from many different places in the world. My children have invented many strategies for convincing others to vote for their wise sayings to the point of making up words that sound legitimate for specific areas...sneaky little progeny!
Customer Review: Your family needs this game! Summary: 4 Stars
My husband and I had played Wise and Otherwise at a friend's house and hunted in stores for it for quite some time. Not finding it locally, we ordered it from Amazon and since then have enjoyed it immensely! If you've ever played Balderdash, you can easily understand the basic rules. Players write their own ending of obscure phrases from all over the world. Some of the real phrases are interesting or educational, and many are quite humorous! It is a game which generates great discussion. Our 11-year old daughter was able to play with the adults (and beat us every time, in fact). This would also be a good party game. We highly recommend it!
Customer Review: I beg to differ with other reviewers. Summary: 2 Stars
Impressed by other reviews I bought this game for several members of my family. We played it in a group of six on Christmas day and were extremely disappointed. The proverbs, assuming they are real, are not only obscure, but often rather meaningless. For example, one was (roughly) "Every hill....has a slope." By the time you have gone around a few times you know that no one is likely to know or guess the right answer. Because of this, the part of the game where others guess whether someone else has the right answer doesn't work--you know they are going to be wrong. This was a great idea but very badly executed.
Customer Review: A GREAT Fun Game!! Summary: 5 Stars
After browsing through Amazon we decided to buy Wise and Otherwise with all of the five-star reviews and because it sounded like fun. Well, it's a FANTASTIC group game, and is so much fun to play I have to recommend it hugely! The object of the game, writing a believable - or unbelievable - ending to a funny saying that almost no one has ever heard before, is just hilarious during play. And the more you play the better it gets as players build on fooling each other. With hundreds of subjects and place names there are endless playing possibilities. If you get this game you'll be having a LOT of fun!
