Toys and Games Reviews of Wise and OtherwiseCustomer Review: Wise and Otherwise Summary: 5 Stars
Never trust the son of a sloppy bricklayer. Is this the real saying or would you like to try to choose your answer from a collection of endings made-up by your fellow game players? I brought this game on a trip with 7th and 8th graders going to a writing competition. We never laughed so hard! The kids were great at thinking up profound or absurd endings to the given beginnings to obscure proverbs. You can easily see that the group of players can make each game different. We did not have any adult males with our group and I know that profound will not always be the flavor the answers will produce.I look forward to playing again and again! (By the way the real proverb was,Never trust the son of a cow. Where do they come up with these! )
Customer Review: Good fun, but overpriced Summary: 5 Stars
Being a word-game enthusiast, I eagerly awaited the arrival of Wise and Otherwise. It was everything I hoped it would be, but I have one complaint: it's overpriced. You are paying too much for a game that essentially comes with ONE box of cards. It also comes with all the peripherals of gaming (pencils, plastic pieces, etc), but I thought the price was rather steep for this one-trick pony. At least in Beyond Balderdash, there are five categories! I think a lower price would be fairer for this game.Price notwithstanding, I love the game. It's great fun, it fosters creativity, and I had a blast playing it with my game-buddies. I highly recommend Wise and Otherwise to those who like word-skill games in the tradition of Balderdash.
Customer Review: our favorite game Summary: 5 Stars
This game is about the best game we've ever encountered and definitely one of the funniest. In fact, it's pretty much impossible to play this game without a lot of laughing. No matter what mix of people are playing the results are always highly entertaining and surprising. The great and fun thing about it is that the real old sayings in the game are really unpredictable, so the endings people make up are also unpredictable. There can be a bunch of funny ones or a mix of funny and "wise" ones, and you never know what will get the votes. The game inspires a lot of joking around, which makes it very social. It's getting a lot of play in our house, but it's one you'll never get tired of. A superior game, sure to be a classic.
Customer Review: Finally played the game and had a great time! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this game for my 29 year old sister who has everything back in March, and it collected dust until we finally had the family together this past weekend and played it. Right from the very first saying everybody was just completely cracking up and having a great time. At first people were just coming up with goofy endings to the sayings (which was very funny) but then everybody had their competitive juices engaged and we all tried to come up with legitimate endings to try to trick people and win the game. The great part is that the real expressions are usually just as goofy as the made up ones, which makes this game very tough and fun to play. We can't wait to get the family together and play again!
Customer Review: TOTALLY HILARIOUS! Summary: 5 Stars
Once you play this game you won't want to stop playing! Everyone gets so good at making up their own endings to the sayings that it really is hard to tell which are the real sayings and which are made up by other players. We got really good at fooling each other. The other great thing is that the old sayings in the game are completely obscure ones from all over the world and take you totally by surprise - some sound too strange or too funny or too unbelievable to be real, so we all felt free to make up anything that suddenly sounded possibly real. At times we were laughing so much and things got so out of hand we could hardly continue playing. A brilliant and fantastically fun game! END
