Customer Review: Classic toy with a chic flare

In 2009 this View Master is exactly the same as the one I had as a boy 25 years ago. The only difference is color--I remember mine as a bright red box with an orange clicking tab. Perhaps this product's black-on-black scheme was designed with a more artistic user group in mind.
The 3D images are just as captivating as they ever were. It's too bad that Fisher Price decided recently to discontinue manufacturing the reels for this product. I feel the marketing of this product was somewhat of a failure, as it was pigeonholed into being a "toy" exclusively for children. The situation is akin to cartoon artwork in America not being taken seriously because too much children content was produced at the expense of neglecting the adult market.
I bought this View Master as part of a graduate school-level art projects, in an experiment to make my own reels. I used it to display computer-modeled renderings of architectural designs. It was a big hit in my school at the final exhibition. So in the end, this view master was incredibly useful! A great feature is that no electricity of any kind is required. It's a completely passive toy. In the future, I see this product becoming even more of an iconic object...and perhaps even used more for artistic explorations as the View Master too falls out of production.
