Customer Review: Cute way to learn how to pedal

My daughter got this for Christmas, and it's not her favorite toy but it's cute. She has definitely learned how to pedal by using it, which will be nice this spring for her tricycle! It comes with a little LCD screen that in different modes either shows letters or animals. When you pedal the screen changes animals/letters, and when you stop pedaling the toy will tell you more about whatever you landed on.
Pros: It's a stationary toy that teaches pedaling. It's been hard for my daughter to learn pedaling on her tricycle as it's moving, and having a toy that does not move has been great for that. I know it's not the intended purpose, but it's a nice bonus! It is educational, but I don't think it will hold her interest for long. I wish it were a little more interactive, or that there were more pedaling games on it. Right now she loses interest after about 5 minutes.
Cons: Wow, it's loud! A volume control would be great. Again, I also wish it were a little more interactive or could "grow" with the child.
If you can find it on sale it's a nice addition.

Bought this from toys r us on sale. It is very loud, so much so my 21 month old daughter does not like to come close to it and when she does try to use it, the loudness is so distracting she can not learn what it is trying to teach her, so after a few minutes she walks away. The volume dominates the living room preventing watching TV or having a conversation at the same time and there is unbelievably no volume control. The peddles are free to turn without resistance. The seat does not bounce and is hard plastic. After a few minutes the unit starts flashing all the lights at the same time very fast and will not work even after replacing the batteries, until overnight, so I think we got a bad one. I checked at the store again and the other ones have the same loudness to them, as the box is cutout to let you try the buttons and hear the sounds. I read the reviews before buying this product and knew the volume was going to be an issue...I am very sound sensitive. I couldn't pass up the price so I bought it hoping I could do something to adjust the volume (and boy was it loud, you all were not kidding), and I was successful. The giraffe head EASILY comes off with the help of a screwdriver. I located the piece where the volume came out and put 2 round cotton pads on the "computer" side of the head and 2 on the front of the head, but I cut a hole in one of the cotton pads for the front to fit over the speaker snugly, the other I laid on top. I realigned the screws with the holes and presto, the sound was still a little loud for my liking, but tolerable. It took me less than 10 minutes to fix. My two year old grandaughter is the busiest child I have ever met. From the time her little feet hit the floor she is off and running. Although she just got the Vtech Ride and Learn Giraffe for Christmas it has already saved her momma a gray hair or two. She likes to get on the seat and pedal (she is still learning this trick)until her feet go backwards a few times. She is getting better everyday though. She loves the bright lights on the vtech and the animation. She pushes one button for a while then another. The music keeps her entertained,the alphabet is clearly understood and the graphics are clear. Grandpa liked the fact that it was easy to put together Christmas Eve night too. It keeps our busy toddler in one place for at least well 15 minutes!Customer Review: Loud but worth it

Santa gave this to my 3 yr old for Christmas. Yes she's right at the age recommendation cut off but she is below the weight maximum so we figure if she likes it, it works. And she loves it! I think it's a great way to get her extra energy out as well as it reinforces some things she's learned like the alphabet. This past summer she had trouble pedaling her tricycle but I think this coming Spring she'll have pedaling down pat and we'll just have to work on her steering. :) It's very light weight and I personally don't think it takes up much room at all. My only complaint is that it is loud but so is a 3 yr old who has nothing to do to release her energy inside during the cold winter months. I would recommend this to people.
