I bought this camera for our 4 year old daughter. I love it and so does she. It's only 2 megapixels but she's four. She takes upclose pictures of her pajamas. Everyone forgets that some of the first digital cameras were only 3 megapixels and the quality wasn't great but we paid several hundred dollars for those cameras. Some of the pictures have turned out really cute. Maybe 1 out of 50 but again she's 4. It's hard for her to hold the camera still to take a picture but shes learning how to line up a shot then take the picture. She's dropped it several times and it still works great. Buy a 2 GB card for it, their cheap on-line. Her 2 year old sister has played with it and not damaged it.
I love the special effects, stamps and frames you can add to the pictures. I wish my camera had that feature. If you want professional pictures taken by your child, buy an adult camera and suffer the consequences when it's damaged. If you want a sturdy camera for a child to learn how to use a camera and produce acceptable pictures, then get this camera.

I purchased the VTech Preschool Kidizoom Plus Digital Camera for my 2 year old granddaughter. She was already taking picture and videos with my Blackberry Phone so I thought she could take picture and videos with this camera as well. I have to say the camera was the hit on Christmas and she has mastered the technology and has taken some great pictures. The camera is built well and will withstand the beating that a toddler can give it. It also has other great features that she will learn as she gets older. The adults had fun playing the games that are also on the camera. We have not used the software that came with the camera yet so I can't comment on that. Our 6 year old daughter loves this camera. It has great special effects pictures. She loves putting Grandma behind bars and antlers on the dog! This is hands down her favorite toy she got this year. She spent hours and hours on Christmas day taking photos and videos. And, she is still using it every single day. Be sure you consider this camera if you are deciding among the various Vtech models. This one has video capability. Our daughter walks around the house and takes videos all the time. She watches them over and over and just giggles about it with sheer delight! Also, this camera can take a standard SD memory card. Be sure you buy a card with lots of memory so your child can make all the videos they want. It seems to be made very well. That's important to us because we also have a one year old in the household and if she gets hold of it, it needs to be indestructible! Our 3 year old loves playing with our digital camera, so we wanted to get her one for herself. We looked at many models online and most only got 2 stars. I found this one recently and purchased it for Christmas. It is awesome!
It takes tons of photos and videos and has a memory stick. There are games and funny things you can do with the pictures like frames and distortion, it even has the zoom feature. She can navigate very easily through it and just has fun pushing buttons and learning it-she probably knows more about it than we do! It is great because you can't really mess anything up, and we feel comfortable with our 19 month old handling it, too.
The picture quality is not great but we aren't planning on printing the pictures or making home videos. Her thrill is the instant gratification of viewing her photos and videos as she takes them.

If the point is to take great pictures, forget this camera. You'd be better off with an inexpensive compact "grown-up" camera. You have to hold the camera VERY still to take good pictures. Any movement and the pictures are blurry. For my 4 1/2 year old daughter, however, this camera is very fun. It's very user friendly for a kid this age. Also, the video camera is suprisingly good. We took the camera to a concert and shot about 10 minutes of video, which turned out pretty good. The camera also has some games, which she likes. If you buy this camera with the mindset that it's a toy for kids that happens to take real pictures (of OK quality), then you should be satisfied. If, however, you have a junior Ansel Adams who wants to take great pictures, look elsewhere.
