Toys and Games Reviews of Vtech Kidizoom Plus Digital Camera - PinkCustomer Review: Image quality is awful. Don't buy. Summary: 1 Stars
Based on reviews, I put this camera on my daughter's birthday list. She received it a couple weeks ago.
I didn't expect image quality on this camera to be spectacular, but I DID expect it to be passable. For a camera that costs this much, I at least expect image quality to be as good as an average 1 MP phone camera. It doesn't even come close. Images are completely blurry to the point that my daughter can barely recognize the subject of the picture.
Most new digital cameras today are over 10 megapixels. It makes sense to only have a kid's first camera be at a low resolution. Better to spend money at making the camera durable and adding some kid friendly features while keeping the price at a reasonable level. I get that. But, we're talking about resolution that was out 10 years ago. Can it really cost that much to produce passable image quality at that resolution?
You're better off going on Craigslist and buying someone's 10 year old point and shoot for $5.
Customer Review: A Fun Toy Summary: 4 Stars
This camera was a Christmas present for my 2 year old daughter, who loves to play with my digital camera. This toy is a hit with her. She loves taking pictures with it. She took about 380 within the first 2 hours of opening it!
On the plus side: This camera is durable enough for a 2 year old's mishandling and dropping. The handles and buttons are easy enough for her to use and she has even figured out how to put the comic inserts into the pictures. With a pair of lithium batteries, the camera will work for a long time. The auto shutoff is a great feature.
On the minus side: 2 megapixel is pathetic, the shots blur easily, and the flash is useless. It is tough to get a good indoor shot. Also, there is really no need to have the two viewfinders with the video screen down below, I don't even think my daughter has considered using them.
All in all though, a good kid's camera. One that we may not get good pictures from, but she is enjoying it immensely.
Customer Review: Excellent Beginner Camera for Kids Summary: 5 Stars
I did my research when I decided to buy my 7 year old a camera this Christmas. I found this in pink so I brought it home, opened both and put batteries (it takes 4 AA batteries, two in each handle, i would recommend getting the Energizer rechargeable ones) in both on Christmas Eve. You would not have believed the the picture quality very good for a "Toy". This one does so much better and that is without the memory card that upgrades the quality of the V-tech. If you are on the market for a rugged kid digital camera, this is the one. We worried about the toggle/arrow button because we thought it would be flimsy, but it isn't. I still haven't needed to replace the batteries several weeks later, with lots of use. Also, she LOVES the different noses, ears, etc you can superimpose on the pictures. She loves the games, memory, tic tac toe and a puzzle game. I can't say enough about how great this camera is. It keeps her entertained in the car too. I highly recommend this toy.
Customer Review: Pictures are better than I expected Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 6 year old granddaughter for Christmas 2008. After opening it, she had a blast taking pictures of everyone! She loved the extra features included and had "bunny ears" (cartoon version) on her aunt's picture and a "pig's nose" on her uncle's picture, she had several of us on "stage" with opened curtains, etc. She's had alot of fun with it, and it's given her experience with a camera. I like that the camera seems to be made very sturdy - just right for little hands, and could probably withstand a few accidental drops. There are 2 viewing windows, which makes it much easier for little ones to see what they are taking pictures of. She's getting better at taking pictures all the time, and it seems like she has played with this Christmas gift more than any other she's received. I got this at a fantastic price ($40 & free SS shipping - ariving in only a few days). So my granddaughter and I are both very pleased with this purchase.
Customer Review: Good first kids' camera Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this camera in pink for my daughter and in blue for my son. In general they are a great first camera for kids. It is easy to figure out how to zoom, flash, and add the editing features. The pictures are not super quality, but this is a kid's camera so that was not my expectation. They love the games and the ability to take pictures when and wherever they want without worry of breaking the camera. Two issues I have encounters: 1. you must get an SD card to add to the memory. This is imperative as my kids use up the internal memory in a matter of minutes. 2. my daughters camera would not read the SD card, or any other SD card so I had to return it. Much to my surprise, they increased the price of the camera by $20 after Christmas and repackaged it somewhat. I cannot figure out how the camera is any different and it's called the same thing. That is disappointing to me. All in all, for a kid's first camera, it is very good.
