Customer Review: Good camera blurry photos

My niece had an older model that my 4ry daughter really liked and was starting to always want to use our point and shoot to take pictures. I decided it was time to get her her own camera. After looking at all the options out there this seemed like the best bet very durable, lots of modes, decent resolution, videos, PINK. So far she has enjoyed it and is able to figure most of the features her self. The thing I am a bit disappointed about though is that the camera should be a bit more aggressive about using the flash or having a faster shudder. A lot of her pictures come out blurry. I don't expect great picture quality but it is a kids camera they shouldn't expect everything to be absolutely still with the camera on a tripod. She either can't hold it still enough or her subject is moving (dog, baby brother). I am trying to show her how to manually turn the flash on so her pictures come out better. I wish there was an option I could set to tell it to always use the flash or at least be a bit more aggressive in it's use of the flash. Hopefully as she get more experience with it she will be better at holding it still and making sure her subjects aren't moving.Customer Review: Durable, Easy to Use and Fun

We bought our 4 1/2 year old this camera. It has been a huge hit and she absolutely loves it. She has already figured out many of the extra features on it. She uses the graphic overlays in the camera and loves the games that are included. She also figured out the voice recording feature herself and it has also been a big hit. It is a simple camera to use, easy to set up and seems quite durable thus far (it has been dropped on a hard surface more times than I can count). The alkaline batteries we installed have lasted longer than I expected, considering it has been under heavy use since she received it a week ago.
The picture quality has been criticized in several reviews. It is fair at best and quite often poor due to being used by a 4 year old. However, it is important to remember it is a kid's camera and in the case of our daughter, she couldn't care less about the quality. It is teaching her basic photography skills on a simple level while having a great time in the process. Overall, even though it will not replace my digital SLR, we are very pleased with this little camera and would highly recommend it.

This is a TOY. It takes pictures, but they are completely unusable. Pictures are blurry. Flash doesn't come on when it should. This camera is cute and durable and has a couple of games and fun add-ons to pictures. However, I will not recommend this to anyone. I bought this camera for my daughter and she was so disappointed that her pictures turned out blurry and out-of-focus. She likes to scrapbook with me and her pictures were totally unusable. She uses my camera and is pretty good at taking pictures, so it wasn't her. When I emailed vtech regarding this they informed me that you have to be very very still while taking a photo. What kid is going to be able to do this without a tripod? What adult can? My advice is to spend a little more to buy your child a real digital camera. It may not be as kid-friendly, but if your child is anything like mine, they pick up on electronics and how to use them very quickly. Also, the booklet states that if the batteries die or if the they are removed, you will lose all your photos! It also states not to use rechargeables. The first thing to remember about this camera: It is decidedly NOT a "grown up" camera. But that's not a bad thing!
We gave this to our five-year-old daughter for her birthday -- she's been bugging us for a camera of her own for about a year now. After hunting around and reading reviews, we found this model (she looooooves pink.) She quickly learned that she needs a lot of light and a steady hand. The resolution isn't high and the flash is a bit weak. But it WORKS! She's having an absolute blast with it.
24-hours and 400 pictures later, she came to me saying, "It's making a noise and won't take any more pictures!" I plugged it into my Mac (running OS X 10.5 Leopard) fearing the worst. But, no worries! It showed up as a removable drive on my desktop from where I copied all of the files to a folder for later review. I deleted everything on the camera and handed it back to her. I'm sure she'll have another hundred by tonight. :-)
One word of warning: If your child starts taking more/better pictures than you, you might be buying another "grown up" camera sooner than you think!

This is a wonderful toy. This was a Christmas present for my 4 year old and we have since shot about 1000 photographs with it. My 2 year old loves it, and keeps stealing it to take pictures of her own. Please keep in mind that this is NOT a Nikon and my child is not Ansel Adams (yet). This is not an SLR, so what you see when you look through the eye pieces is not what you get -- remember the old point and shoot 110 cameras from the 70's and 80's, that is this camera's equivalent.
This camera has been extremely durable, it has been tossed, dropped, dropped on the tile, and fought over, and it hasn't broken. We've gotten about 5 useable pictures, but again, my child is not Ansel Adams and her two favorite subjects are her own feet and the TV. I've found this camera is much more successful outside than inside.
I agree with others that if you are looking to teach your child photography buy something else, because you will be disappointed with this cameras performance. If you want a toy to introduce the idea of photography and let your child have fun, this is the camera for you.
