Customer Review: Very good (almost excellent) first camera for a child

Our daughter already has a lot of experience taking pictures with our relatively expensive Canon. At three and a half she is not too fussy about the overall quality of the photos. She's happy to point, shoot, and see her work on the little screen. Christmas came at just the right time as our little girl had been asking for her own camera. I was very happy to find this one on Amazon. The camera was her favorite Christmas present.
Regarding the picture quality I can agree that it is not the best but you have to keep in mind that this is a kids camera. I believe the design emphasis was more on durability and fun. However I believe that given the price of the camera (especially some of the price gouging that I saw with this item over the Christmas holiday) I think that V-tech could afford to improve the resolution of the camera. I'll bet this is probably in the works for the next generation. In any case the camera takes reasonable pictures. It's not the best for low light situations even with its own flash.
This camera may not satisfy older kids who already use an adult digital camera. In this case I'd pay a little more and get a 'real' camera. However if you want a durable and fun camera for a younger child, I can recommend this on.
One last note, I bought one of these for my niece. My sister told me that my niece loves it too.

I think we actually got an older version of this camera, I couldn't find it on the website. It doesn't have quite the amount of editing options as this one, but it's still great, nontheless. I second everything everyone else has said about this camera. It is just fabulous. Impressed with the lengthy battery usage and durability - it's already taken a leap down the basement stairs and survived beautifully! All three of my kids, 15mo, 3, and 4, carry this thing around and use it. The flash isn't that great, it tends to white-out the image, but that's ok, it's their camera, not mine. The eldest has fun with the games, specifically the one where the picture gets cut up into four pieces and she has just so much time to figure out how they go back together again before the timer goes off. When she gets it right she gets a smiley face, which just thrills her to death. Christmas morning, when she got it, she took it to Nanna's house and took a picture of every house on the way - I told my hubby if anyone ever needed to know how to get to my house, all they had to do was look at the pics in her camera! Of course, the memory's been erased twice since then, over eight hundred pics!!!!
This thing has been lots of fun for them. If anything ever happened to it, we'd definately buy another one. It's been worth it!
Customer Review: Not for a child who is familiar with "better" cameras

Long story short, bought this for my 3 year old daughter who enjoys playing with our Kodak pocket camera. Wanted to get her something a little more durable and something we would not worry about her handling without us watching her every move. Well, it is durable and well made. The features are great. The problem is the quality of the photos.
In an extremely well-lit room, photos hardly showed up. Furthermore, the photos themselves are very pixelated. I was not expecting fantastic quality, but I expected better than this.
Now, I know that people will have differing opinions based on their own experiences and expectations. Save the "what did you expect" comments, please. : ) The bottom line is that you should open the box very carefully just in case you have to return it (and despite what someone else has said, you should still be able to return products with ripped up blister packaging).
My girl tends to grasp things like this fairly easily and I was primarily looking for something more durable for her. After trying this one out, I will follow the lead of some others here and find a better quality "started" camera and just miss out on the cool features and pretty pink frame. Just save your receipt in case.

I had originally planned on purchasing the Fisher Price version of the digital camera for children. After researching, though, I decided to go ahead and order the VTech, which was not only cheaper, but overall received MUCH better reviews. I'm so glad I did!
Although my daughter is only two, she has a BLAST with this camera. I literally cannot pry it from her hands without a fight. My brothers and sisters, aged 4, 6, and 8 had non-stop fun, and continually passed it back and forth, making me wish I'd chosen it for ALL of their gifts! Not only that, but when I got ahold of the camera to play with the features, I didn't want to give it back! It's so much fun, not only taking surprisingly good pictures, but you can add stickers to the pictures (A pirate's hat on auntie, a piggys nose on grampa...) and take video as well! It's easy to connect to the computer (Plug USB, click "open folder" Voila!). I haven't even bothered with the disc that came with the camera yet, because we're still having a blast with the camera itself!
Obviously, this isn't on par with an adults digital camera, priced at well over $50. But for the $30 I spent on this, I'm incredibly impressed and content with my decision to purchase the Vtech Kidizoom.

I bought an eariler model of this camera for one daughter 3 years ago this Christmas the younger one got this model. I went back to this type of camera because it is awesome. I had no idea that the upgrades were going to be so great! The picture and video quality has improved. The games are better. There is a dial that makes it easier to see what you are choosing to do. I loved the old one so much I was going to get a second, the new cameras are so awesome the Easter Bunny might have to bring a new camera to our oldest! Love, love, love this product! You will too once you see all those moments your child finds to capture in pictures or video. It is easy to download off the camera onto a computer for printing, editing, etc. My 4 and 6 year olds make their own movies that are so cute (grandma in TN loves to check the mail) and will be oh so much fun to showcase at their high school graduation party. (insert evil laugh here)
PS I think this camera could be run by a 2 year old and fun for a 10 year old unless they are super responsible and won't drop the real deal. This camera bounces and has been dropped thousands of times and has never missed a beat.
