Toys and Games Reviews of Vtech V.Smile TV Learning System

Customer Review: Daughter loves it; when it works....
Summary: 1 Stars

My mom bought her one a year ago when they first came out. It lasted about 6 months then quit working. The on button would stay on, but no picture or anything. So we went a couple days ago and got her one of these newer ones with the microphone. It worked for one day, then the next day it wouldn't turn on. So I took it back and got her another one, thinking maybe it was just a faulty one. But this one is doing the same thing! When it works, she loves it; she's 5 and is starting kindergarten this year so I loved that it was teaching her things. I don't think i'll be getting another one. They are all faulty. I'm very disapointed. I will be looking for something else for her that will hopefully continue to work properly.

Customer Review: Replug it
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had a vsmile for my kids for a little over 2 years now and the only problem I have had with it is the game system freezing up. It doesn't do it all the time but enough to annoy me and the kids. My daughter started crying when she was "almost finished beating a game" and it locked up. When this happens I have to unplug the AC Adapter and plug it back it and it resets the system. I don't know if maybe the unit gets too hot or what, but this is one little flaw that has driven the kids crazy since they got it. They still love it however and play it at least twice a week. (not bad for a toy they have had over 2 years) So if it lasts for another 2 years then I guess we will upgrade to a gaming system for older kids.

Customer Review: OK - has some flaws
Summary: 3 Stars

Our 3 year old son loves the V-smile. There is a lot of variance on the quality of graphics amongst games. Also, we hooked up our V-Smile to our big-screen TV and the picture sometimes looks fuzzy -- worse than old-school 1990s Ninetndo. I hear that the picture quality improves if you hook it up to a smaller screen TV. Many of the games say they are for ages 3+, but I think they are mixed bag and don't seem to have accurate / age-appropriate ratings. Some of the games like "Elmo" are great for a 3 year old. Other games, like a "Backyardigan" game are too hard and better suited for 5 year old kids.

Our son really likes the V-Smile, however, and he would probably give it 5 stars.

Customer Review: A great educational gift!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is just a great product. My kids love it. I have avoided buying regular game systems because I don't just want them spending hours playing useless games. I like this product because they have to use their brains and they are learning skills that they need for school and beyond. It has had a few glitches but we have had it for about 2 years and it has held up great. The art studio and other accessories are good products too. My girls are six almost seven and are starting to out grow the games but yet still play them. If they made the games for older kids I would continue to buy them. My only suggestion would be to make sure you buy the power cord. It makes no sense to buy this with out it!

Customer Review: If it's keep working, we'd LOVE it!
Summary: 1 Stars

I love Vsmile and my kids do too but, the unit will just STOP working! The first time, we had it almost a year and we took great care of it but it'd stop working where the power button would be on but nothing on the screen, then you couldn't turn it off. Sent it back to Vtech and they sent us a new one. About a year later, SAME THING! What is going on? Now they tell me we are out of luck. I'm torn becuase when it works, we love it! I'm thinking of buying the newer version with the microphone and hope that's better as we have 7 games and 2 from the holiday not open yet (in case). I say NO on the older vsmile...just wish I knew with the newer one, we'd have more warranty on it!!!
