Customer Review: Fantastic Night With Friends
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are looking for a nice addition to a dinner party, this is the product for you! My husband and I had two other couples over to play the game. It went smoothly despite the fact that none of us had ever participated in a murder mystery before. It was pretty self explanitory and after 2 minutes, we all got the hang of the game. Encourage your guests to come in character. The character of "Rocco" showed up in a tuxedo...very appropriate. I set up my kitchen table like a table in a restaurant and created menus to put at each place setting. We served a different course of the meal just before playing the CD to advance to the next round. I was stressing about this but it worked out well. Just make sure that everyone is done eating the one course before playing the CD and moving onto the next. We had tons of laughs and took some fun pictures. Two of the six guessed the murderer. I will definitely be hosting another party soon. However, we will not be able to use this one again since we know the outcome.

Customer Review: Okay if you don't take it too seriously

This was our first attempt at hosting a murder mystery and it was fun. It mostly reads like a play with each person having their parts. There can be some improvisation if your guests are so inclined (and intoxicated) but mostly the players just wait for their turn to accuse another player and it pretty much follows that form.

I was hoping for a bit more interaction between the characters. We set up in the living room with the coffee tables out of the way so everyone could interact, but I don't think there was ever cause for anyone to stand up, let alone act.

We also got tied up trying to figure out the order in which we're supposed to speak. We had eight people including my wife and I, and we thought that by playing the "extra" players, we could sort of direct the evening. If we do another mystery by this company, we will not be involved in the game, but rather read through the whole kit ahead of time and attempt to direct things a bit more smoothly.

Customer Review: Great Fun!! Need more interaction with extra guests.

This was a "Family" event! It was great fun, people came dressed as characters and "really" got into the action. We used our own version of food, and "dressed" the garage in theme decorations, wine bottles with candels, music, checkered tablecloths etc. We took the suggestion and chalked in an outline of the dearly departed.
Co-hosts dressed as "The Dog, and Beth" and were "family" friends. They were to escort the murderer to the police to avoid exposer to the "family". We used a date close to Halloween for this one.
All the materials in the game were first rate!

Two suggestions, #1-that the host NOT PLAY a part, and preview the CD ahead of time in order to assist their guests with questions. #2-Extra guests are left out of the action, need more characters to write in somehow. But over all, a great sucess and we will be planning the next one soon!

Customer Review: Disappointed, didn't live up to potential

Well, I had high hopes but...first of all I found the mystery to be quite confusing. As the hostess I was supposed to be directing what happens next but it was all a messy jumble. What do we do now? Who goes first? Do we play the tape yet? What a mess! I found the mystery impossible to figure out, I couldn't keep track of what the heck had been revealed, by who. Worst of all, make sure you don't play the tape after round three. You ARE supposed to play the tape after round 1 and 2. But then we accidentally played it after round 3 also and it revealed the murderer in the first five words, before we'd had a chance to debate it! Major bummer, I felt so bad as the host. I'm sure some of this mess had a little something to do with trying to take care of a 4 month old during the party and also drinking two glasses of wine. But, still. Very confusing!!!

Customer Review: Needed a bit more instruction

My guests arrived in their designated costumes, and all had a great time in just the preparation of their characters. The guests chose to help me out by preparing some of the dishes. We went straight out of the book. The mushroom salad was not enough to feed the eight I had in attendance. The green beans needed to be cooked longer than the book suggested. The onion topped Boboli was a hit!! No one knew if the roasted peppers were to be served as an appetizer, salad or main course...we live in Texas.
The character books need to be written in first person,(the you's need to be replaced with I's), as the guests were very dependent on their scripts. We didn't get in to the challenging very well until the third round and only because one of my guests had been to a mystery dinner before.
