I've been a fan of the show for longer than I care to admit, so when I discovered that there were toys available based on the new series, I jumped at the chance to own them.
This particular one does not dissapoint. It's simple, functional, and does a reasonably good job of looking like its television counterpart. It's a bit shorter than the TV prop, and is solid: the end does not extend, as the TV prop does. It's made of plastic, with a recognizeable but not intricate level of detail. It seems pretty durable, I dropped mine within seconds of opening the package (onto a hardwood floor, no less) and it still works fine.
A simple plastic switch on the side activates the flashlight (or, for a brit, "torch") function. The flashlight is surprisingly bright for such a little thing, but the bluish tint makes the light less clear than an ordinary flashlight.
But who are we kidding? The LED flashlight is a just a flimsy excuse for obtaining a toy to delight the kid in you.
I wish it did not use button batteries-I don't understand why it can't take a triple-a cell, which would be easier to replace. And the batteries are hard to get to, a screwdriver is required to open the compartment. A *tiny* screwdriver.
These are minor quibbles, though. It's a great value for the money and is sure to delight any fan of the series.
