Toys and Games Reviews of Doctor Who - Tardis Rotating LED Mobile Phone CharmCustomer Review: No 3G support Summary: 4 Stars
I usually always read reviews, but I was so stoked about this mobile charm that I bought it anyway without checking feedback. If I had, perhaps I would have read the other reviews saying it doesn't work with 3G. While my new 3G phone that I intended this charm for means I'm SOL in that regard, it's all good because I think I might have bought it anyway even if I knew that before hand. A TARDIS under 'glass' is pretty sweet even if it doesn't really work the way I thought it might. I actually was more interested in just the look of the thing than its function anyway. (Maybe it'd make a quirky necklace?)
For any 3G users considering it anyway, I can say that at least it sometimes catches a weird signal from somewhere and does light and spin from time to time, seemingly randomly. So it's not like you may never see it spin, just don't expect it to spin on demand for phone calls.
I suppose the plus side is that, if it's not spinning and lighting up all the time I won't have to pay ridiculous replacement battery costs. Woo!
Customer Review: Great, but flashing is wonky. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had a lot of positive feedback on this charm while using my phone in public, and that's been kinda neat to meet other Who fans. I really enjoy the way it looks and the cord is very sturdy. I can easily attach it to most cases for my iPhone 3G.
I do have problems with my iPhone 3G and the flashing component of this charm, though. For some reason, the charm flashes often, even if there is no activity on the phone. It flashes near TVs and other devices. This alone isn't too bad, but the biggest problem is that it flashes at the dead of night for no reason. The light is extremely bright, and it's annoying for folks who keep the phone near their faces at night. If I had a message or a call, the light wouldn't bother me, but the fact that it's ghosting a signal is rather frustrating.
In any case, I love the charm but I may not replace the batteries when they go dead.
Customer Review: Works with iPhone! Summary: 5 Stars
I read reviews for this product on all sorts of websites trying to decide whether to get the charm or not, especially since I have an iPhone and don't have a cover where I can hang a charm off of. I bought it anyway because I thought at the very least it would be a very cool key charm.
I read some of the reviews saying that it doesn't work with the iPhone... well, it DOES. I usually have my 3G turned off on my iPhone 3GS since I'm around wireless and don't really care whether I have 3G enabled or not... Anyways, I had a friend call my phone and the charm worked on the first try! It lit up even before my phone started to ring.
I can't really judge on it's durability since I received it today, but I wanted to let the people out there with iPhones who were a bit bummed that this charm might not work that it does!
Customer Review: The Tardis Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this charm! besides it being kind of big for a fone charm its impossible not to love if ur a doctor who fan. it really does light up and spin when u get a text or fone call, which was one of my main worries.
i even dropped it where it came apart, i thought i had broken it but the bottom actually screws off so i was able to put it back together and it still works perfectly, so its pretty durable.
the only thing i suggest is if your in the car with a friend or family member and ur fone is out, warn them that ur tardis will light up. ive had many ppl yell at me because they thought a cop was behind us since it lights up and flashes blue. The flash is very bright and ive actually thought myself that i had a cop behind me. Although it always results in a good laugh so i can't really complain.
Customer Review: Very nice looking charm Summary: 1 Stars
The good points first - It's very nice looking. I got a lot of comments from people who saw it lighted up, they all loved it.
Bad Points -
Original batteries it came with died after only one month, I don't use my phone a lot so I figure it should have lasted longer.
If I put it to close to my portable home phone it would not stop spinning and flashing.
If I put it to close to my TV I had the same problem, spinning and flashing.
Would start flashing during the middle of the night even with no phone call coming in.
Expensive to replace the batteries , which cost $15.00 for three!
Second set of batteries again died in less than a month.
To summarize: Very nice looking but don't get it for the lights or the spinning unless you want to keep having to replace the battery.
