Toys and Games Reviews of Uncle Milton Uncle Milton Planet Frog

Customer Review: be patient
Summary: 3 Stars

We got planet frog for Christmas 2007, and I sent for the tadpoles a few weeks later. Our tadpoles arrived in April 2008. I did not have a problem transitioning the tadpoles to their new environment, just followed the directions. It is now mid June 2008 and as I was watching the tadpoles earlier I noticed that there are bumps where the legs should be coming in. I am amazed that I have not managed to kill the babies yet as I have problems keeping any fish except betas alive. Planet frog is a good learning experience and teaching tool. The "tank" is rather flemsy and I am glad that my children (ages 4 to 11) have left it alone considering how curious kids can be. It teaches patients and science (metamorphasis). I think that if anyone is going to purchase this product that they need to understand things are not going to happen overnight. I am planning on changing to an actual tank when our tadpoles get their legs. So far no problems just practicing patients but... Good things come to those who wait, so we are (waiting)

Customer Review: Follow instructions and make some modifications.

As a teacher, I purchased this for my classroom. The container is somewhat well made enough for what it is intended for. It is plastic, but who wants to spend tons of money on something better made? I received it within two weeks as promised. It indicates on the card if you are a teacher and need it by a certain time, to list the date. I received it on time. My only disappointment is that it took forever for the tadpole to grow into a frog. We received "George" in February and this morning he is now a full fledged frog. He is adorable! The food they send with the tadpole is not the best. I modified by using a different kind and it worked better. It seemed the tadpole grew faster with the new food. You DO have to change the water diligently! It is necessary for the survival of the little tadpole and it has to be purified spring water (bought from Wal Mart). I would recommend this product if you happen to find it at a decent price and you have the time and skills to dedicate to the little guy.

Customer Review: THE WORST!!! AVOID!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

First let me say that the Planet Frog habitat is very cheaply made. It is flimsy at best and gets dents in it if you try to move it. Second, the tadpoles: we ordered 2 tadpoles. One died 2 days after we got it. Uncle Milton replaced that one. We've had it for 6 months now...it's still a tadpole...there has been NO change at all! The other tadpole turned into a frog, got white growths on its eyes, became blind, and therefore couldn't eat. It slowly starved to death. Uncle Milton did nothing about the diseased frog and has done nothing about the unchanged tadpole (they can't control nature, they say.) This is a horrible habitat, and a horrible company with horrible customer service. Luckily I found growafrog dot com. They are great. Habitats are sturdy and well built. The tadpoles and frog all have guarantees on them so no matter what you will get to watch metamophosis and end up with a frog. Go with growafrog and avoid Planet Frog...I would give Planet Frog zero stars if that was possible.

Customer Review: A great educational investment!

OK some of these reviews are comical. Most of them are complaining about the tadpoles taking longer than expected to arrive. It says in plain English in the instructions that they can only be shipped certain times of the year due to temperatures. Mine came in 2 weeks and both tadpoles were alive on arrival. I put a pint of room temperature bottled spring water into the habitat and let the 2 conatiners with the tadpoles in them sit in the water to equalize the temperatures. I came back a 30 minutes later and dumped the tadpoles in the water and left them undisturbed until this morning. They are both alive and doing well. You can't put them in the habitat and annoy them when they are first put it because they will freak out and hurt themselves. The habitat itself is a little flimsy but it's not like it has 20 gallons of water in it. For $24 what does one expect? All in all no problems and looking forward to frogs in a couple weeks. My son loves it already.

Customer Review: What a Scam-Don't Disapoint your Child-Don't Buy This!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

We got this for my son last summer, sent off for our tadpoles and got a letter saying it was too cold to send them. Excuse me? It was August-How much warmer could it get? Anyway, Called and was told we got wrong letter and they would be shipping them soon. We got them, and they arrived fine, but here we are 7 months later and we have NO FROGS! One has died finally and the other is hanging on but my son still has faith that they will change soon. What a huge dissapointment for him, he had wanted this for a while and now we find out its all a crock. This is cruel to the children and the tadpoles, I will be complaing to the the Better business bureau as well as the company and will be sure not to buy anything else from them. Just a side note, we had also purchased the Aquarasaurs and they never hatched, another disappointment. This company thinks they can just sell anything-its ridiculous. Save yourself the aggravation and buy something else.
