Customer Review: Daughter loves it, durability a concern

My husband purchased this item for our 5 year old daughter and it really is a big hit. The rainbow is a bit muddy and not extremely bright, but that's actually a good thing in my opinion (well the part about it being not so bright, but the muddiness is part of the reflection so it is livable). It is soothing and not so bright that it would keep a young child up. The batteries last a really long time because the lights are led, and therefore very low power. In fact, we use high power rechargeable batteries and I think we've only had to replace the batteries once. My daughter absolutely loves this rainbow maker. I'd have to say it's one of her favorite things.
My one complaint is that we've had this for less than a year and most of the leds are burned out. I can't seem to find a way to replace them either. If the bulbs were replaceable and/or it was easier to contact customer service, I would have given this product 5 stars.
All in all, this is a great product a child that loves rainbows and also makes a great nightlight. However, be prepared to replace it since it obviously won't last forever.

We bought this for my 6 yr old daughter for Christmas, and my sister-in-law sent one too - both of us thinking the same thing after seeing good reviews and toy ratings on the internet. So far so good. I like that it is portable, being battery operated, but not sure how long the batteries will last. The other part not so sure about is that with it not being plugged in, the kids want to carry it themselves to a new location. Seems sturdy enough, but with the design that the colored bulbs shine down onto a metallic foil area and then reflect up, the foil looks like it could be easily damaged as well as the bulbs in the top.
The colors are bright and shine up to create a great rainbow across the entire room, and turns off on its own. I do wish it had a plug in version to be more of a night light.
I am holding onto the second one to give as a gift - my daughter does really like the rainbow so for the price, it is great.

Before my purchase, I read mixed reviews about this product. Many of its purchasers loved it while others discovered their's to be defective. The first one I purchased did not project a rainbow at all. Apparently, there are five small bulbs that must illuminate to produce a rainbow and only three were lighting. Be sure to check your merchant's exchange policy for defective merchandise before buying this product as I ended up having to pay an additional nine dollars to return it which was not refunded and two additional weeks to finally have a working Rainbow in My Room.
The product projects a rainbow onto the walls, not through the air as displayed in the illustration, but I do have to say that my seven year old and my three year old are completely enchanted. Even my husband who tends to think everything is a piece of junk is impressed with it. I can see a lot of magical sleepovers at our house occurring in the near future.

We bought this for my 4 yr old's birthday. She loves it! She calls it her rainbow maker and sleeps with it. It is very lightweight and feels cheap, but I don't mean that as a bad thing. It WAS inexpensive, and if it were heavier I'm afraid it wouldn't be surviving at my house. My 2 yr old has thrown it a few times, and they carry it all over the house. They've taken off the "mirror", a mylar strip (so nothing that shatters), several times but I've put it back on. I may glue it. It's just held in by tabs on the ends. It could be considered a choking hazzard. My kids have also rubbed off some of the mirror, but it still works. I wouldn't consider this toy educational, though. It's just a cool LED nightlight basically. I still give this a 5 star rating, because I feel like we got what we paid for. My kids LOVE it, and I just realize nothing lasts forever around my house.Customer Review: It is a wonderful toy

Some time ago, my scientific husband explained me and my child how to make a rainbow at home and ask me to get some crystals. I thought it was neat idea to make own rainbow. Although my child enjoyed to see the beautiful rainbow with those crystals, I thought the rainbow was tiny. A couple month ago I found this toy on line. I carefully read the reviews and I bought one from Amazon, then I gave it to my friend's daughter for her birthday and she really liked it. So, I also bought many more to give to our child's school friends for their birthday presents. My child's birthday is coming soon. Although my child is a boy, I think he does find it is a girlish toy. Anyway, I am so sure my son and his daddy will enjoy making rainbow together and discuss about it so much. I cannot wait to give it!
