Customer Review: Great fun - just don't expect a high-end piece of equipment

We got this camera as a gift, and we've only had a chance to use it a couple of times, but we've had a lot of fun with it. You just plug it into your computer to charge it, select how often you want the camera to take a picture (every 1, 5, or 15 minutes), and clip it to your pet's collar.
I used mine when I took my dog on a hike, and again to the dog park. I took my dog out for the whole afternoon, and the camera only holds 40 photos, so I set it to photograph every 5 minutes. Getting a good photo is a matter of being lucky enough to have the dog standing still with the lens pointed at something interesting when the photo snaps. We got a lot of blurry ones, shots of the ground, all black ones (from when he was napping in the back of the car with his head blocking the lens). But there were definitely some fun ones, too, and even some of the blurry ones looked sort of cool and abstract. I think I would have have gotten more usable pictures if I had set it to photograph every minute over 40 minutes, and used it in a setting where he wasn't moving so much.
As far as functionality, we haven't had a problem with ours. The instructions are very clear, and the camera only has 2 buttons. (True, those buttons look very similar to each other, which might confuse you for about 30 seconds, but trust me... you'll figure it out.)
It charged up on a Macbook via the included cable with no trouble, and no need to load any drivers. Note: the cable looks like a standard USB, but the instructions say that the camera will not work with any other cable, so you need to keep track of it. (I wonder if some of the reviewers who said their cameras stopped charging maybe lost track of that cable and tried to use one of their other USB cables instead.)
A few people suggested putting a piece of tape over the USB port to protect it from moisture and dirt, and that seems like a good idea.
The camera itself is more of a toy than a high-end piece of equipment. It only holds a charge for about 20 hours, and you need to upload your photos from it before the battery dies, or it will lose the pictures. It was really designed for you to put it on your pet for a few hours, and then take it off and immediately get your photos. Several reviewers have mentioned putting it on a cat or dog that roams around outside unsupervised for hours or days at a time. You might get some interesting pictures that way, but it stands to reason that the camera is not going to last as long or work as well if you do that.
The other thing you need to know is that the camera is a little awkward for very small or short animals. I have a 12 lb. terrier, and while the camera is not heavy, it's kind of big on him, and at first he tried to shake it off. If you have a "teacup" sized dog, you might even find that the camera drags on the ground, and you might need to rig an alternative way for your dog to wear it.
