This item works perfectly for a night light, probably one of the coolest night light's out there. It is perfect for kids that are afraid of the dark. It can be left in any phase of the moon, which helps control the amount of light being emitted. It can also be set to automatically change phases every five seconds. Of course, it is also a learning device, showing the various phases of the moon up close and comes with a cd, which we haven't listened to yet. I like the automatic shut off feature, so it doesn't matter if it is left on, which is handy at night. My first thought was that it appeared cheap and could have been slightly more realistic, so 4 stars.Customer Review: Original gift! 5 yo loves his moon!

Bought this for my 5 yo who has a thing for planets and space right now. He opened it and immediately screamed "MOON!" and went on the hunt for batteries. He loves it, and I think it's a great toy. It allows for them to control the phases by remote. Also, it has a nightlight function that you can let it rotate phases and it shuts off in a hour. (if you feel the need to take the remote away from the littler ones) It also has a CD which is perfect for putting on the CD player, turning the night light function on...and giving a kiss goodnight as they cuddle and listen to facts about their moon. I purchased this for my son's nursery and it's one of my favorite things. It's a GREAT light to use at night when we have to go in the room (without waking him up). We keep the remote on the edge of the crib and it's easy just to click on when we enter the room. He also loves looking at the moon when he's awake. I can't attest to the educational value yet, but we look forward to using the CD with it when he's older. My only complaint would be that the batteries seem to die out quickly. I would recommend turning it off instead of waiting for the 30 minute shut off. I rave about this item all the time. Highly recommend it for whatever use you need.Customer Review: Perfect Nightlight

My 3 year old grandson is fascinated with the moon so I thought we would see if he would like this. Since he is only 3 I hung it high in his room and the first time he saw it he was so excited, and it was during the day! Everyone who sees it thinks it's neat and asks where I got it.
He does like to touch it and play with the controller to see the different stages so as I said we keep things up so he can only do that when we are with him. He asks questions about the feel and craters and I think when he starts school he will be the most informed child in his class about the moon.
It's used as a night light and I like the auto turn off.

I purchased this because my 2 year old loves to look at the moon. I unpacked it and it worked literally for 5 minutes, it went out and never worked again. Changed the batteries, nothing.
I got a replacement. The second one worked for a full day (Yay!) then stopped working. Again, changed batteries and NOTHING!
So I decided to open up BOTH of them. In the first one, the wires were loose and one light burned out. On the second one, all the wires were attached but it was dead as a doornail.
I thought maybe I just got a dud with the first one. Nope!
Useless, worthless and a complete waste of money.
