Toys and Games Reviews of Uncle Milton Moon In My Room

Customer Review: Any age will appreciate this toy
Summary: 5 Stars

I was skeptical at first being a 37 year old on how this would look in my bedroom.
I was surprised that the level of detail and craftsmanship is decent that I took a picture down and the moon
sits on a wall alone.

Benefits of it are it's a perfect night light and it really adds a very different touch to the room.
It's very natural looking and perfect at night. With a comforting audio CD you can imagine yourself outside by looking at it.

Now I want a high quality star system on my ceiling displayed to enhance this effect. It has a huge benefit for restless sleepers by adding the moon, a soothing audio cd you can convince your mind your at peace looking at the night sky in your own bedroom in the pitch dark of your room!

The best 20 dollars spent on this so called 6 year old toy that has a tremendous amount of benefit for any age!
I highly recommend the product.

Customer Review: Moon in my Classroom!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am teaching 1st-3rd graders basic astronomy. Every morning at our meeting someone uses the Moon in My Room to demonstrate the phases. They understand how to read a lunar calendar, and can use it to figure out the phase for the day if they did not see the moon the previous day or night. The remote control is a little tricky and getting little kids to use it well is a challenge, but they can all name the phases as someone clicks through them using this tool. It's great that the maria are portrayed so realistically, as the kids have learned how to tell if the moon phase is waxing or waning by looking at which maria are visible. It really helped them build understanding when they could touch the 'topography' and connect it with a photograph and map of the moon, and they were able to use the vocabulary they were studying to describe the surface. I am very grateful for this tool, as it has enhanced our learning dramatically.

Customer Review: Cool educational device not a toy
Summary: 4 Stars

Moon In My Room hangs easily on the wall in any of three positions that allow correct tilt for all four seasons. It requires two batteries in its remote and three more inside the Moon disc itself.

The display of the Moon's surface is accurate in the sense that it shows the brightest quadrant of the Moon at the lower right. The remote turns the illumination of the Moon on and off and advances its phases either manually or automatically (every five seconds). I was very impressed that the Moon's basic phases display with accuracy in the sense that the "horns" of the Moon are 180 degrees apart.

An accompanying audio CD contains fifteen minutes of narrative about the Moon. This is sufficient information to encourage further exploration but not so much that it becomes boring.

Moon In My Room is a fine educational device. It belongs in a kid's room, but it's not a toy or merely a night light.

Customer Review: So cool! Unique addition to any kid's room.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have seen boys and girls ages 2 to 8 captivated by Uncle Milton's "Moon in My Room." As an adult, frankly I think it's pretty cool too!

The moon model has a contured, textured surface. It is a couple of inches thick, curved, so it has real depth. The moon cycles through 12 different phases. I have not seen any evidence of the light turning on automatically after dark, as advertised, but it works fine manually or by activating the automatic 5-seconds per phase cycle. The moon is lit up from a light within and the plastic does not glow in the dark when it is turned off.

The Moon in My Room is advertised as appropriate for ages 6 and up, but since it's mounted on the wall I don't see why it can't go in a toddler's room as long as the remote control is secured. I will echo a previous reviewer's comment that you need to keep track of the remote, as I don't think it would work otherwise.

Customer Review: Buy this! Kids ages 1 to 100 love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

You would be crazy not to buy this thing. Gave this to our 6 year old son who is obsessed with anything related to the solar system. He loves it. It is a great size - not too big, not too small - so it can be placed pretty much on any wall of his room without it seeming too close or too far away. He adores it and falls asleep with it every night. Shuts off automatically after 30 minutes, so perfect to drift off to sleep with. My dad also fell in love with it, and will be receiving one for his 65th birthday this year, and our baby will receive one for her room on her 2nd birthday (will not let her play with the remote, however). Neither my Dad nor our baby girl are obsessed with solar system stuff, but they still love Moon in My Room. This will be our go-to gift for all kids' birthdays this year, absolutely no question about it. A tremendous value for the money.
