Toys and Games Reviews of Uncle Milton Moon In My RoomCustomer Review: I'll give you the moon... Summary: 4 Stars
"Thank you for giving me the moon, mommy." That sweet simple comment says it all. I purchased the moon from Amazon in September for my daughter's 4th birthday. I was excited about this product, and let me explain, I have always been a space case. Since I was 7 or 8 I have been fascinated with astronomy. What better way to share this aspect of my geeky nature than to hang a waxing moon in my room.
The initial reaction upon opening the gift was not what my expectations had hoped for. The skates and elbow/knee pad combo was the big hit. But giving it time and knowing that this little science project in a box was better suited for a nightime viewing, I waited.
Just as I had hoped, the bed time ritual was enhanced by the soft glow of a moon phase. The texture of the moon face is spot on and the remote control allows one to progress through the 29 1/2 day moon cycle in just under 5 seconds flat. The moon can hold a phase for about 30 minutes to act as a short term nightlight before it retires for the night.
It's cool to have a moon in your room. It always gives me a thrill to hear that sleepy little voice, nestled deep in the covers, thanking me for the moon.
Customer Review: I was hoping the negative reviews were wrong... Summary: 3 Stars
I read many of the reviews on this product, both positive, negative and in-between. I figured the good outweighed the bad so I went ahead and purchased Uncle Milton's Moon In My Room. I though it would make a cute addition the the glow in the dark stars and solar system decals that I had put in my son's bedroom.
The first time we got the moon set up and ready to go, it glowed brightly and was very easy to turn on by remote. I could easily click through the moon's phases on the remote and turn it on and off. The CD that came along with it is very informative and the music is soothing.
The batteries died after a week and a half, so I changed those out with a fresh set. Sadly, the moon doesn't glow as brightly as it did before, and we are having some difficulty turning it on with the remote. We have to press the each of the buttons several times to get it to turn on. The lights glow very dim and the phases are barely visible.
Overall I think it is a neat concept, my son enjoyed watching it go through the phases when it was more luminescent. I just wish it would have stayed nice and bright like it did when we got it.
Customer Review: Good addition to a space themed room Summary: 4 Stars
This was a gift for a 8 year old space-crazed boy for his room which was recently redecorated into a space theme. This product was a nice addition for the general feel, looks really nice and is mesmerizing to stare at, especially on the full moon setting. I'm not sure yet on battery life yet, but he's still on the first set of batteries and has had it on for a little while (10-20 min) every night for 2 weeks.
The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because it is like a light house beacon in a dark room which, unfortunately, washes out all of the other glow-in-the-dark products/effects in the room. He has constellations covering the walls and ceiling and planets hanging around the light fixture in correct order and approximate distance. When the moon is on, even in the smallest sliver setting, nothing glows... not even Pluto in the opposite corner of the room.
However, in general the moon is really cool and fun to stare at. Just realize its brightness fades out the other glow-in-the-dark stuff.
Customer Review: daughter loves this Summary: 5 Stars
found this by accident on amazon and thought my daughter would enjoy it as she LOVES the moon, planets, space (she is four). the other reviews seemed favorable so i followed my gut and got it. GLAD i did. it's not a fancy, technology based toy that today's kids play with but it's very neat and she loves it, has to show it to everyone that comes over. It has a nice glow but not too bright, it is like having the moon in your room. It makes a perfect night light that automatically goes off after 30 minutes. i attached a string to the remote and have it hanging at the side of my daughter's bed so if she wakes she can turn it back on. the features are basic: on/off full, or you can select what moon phase you want, or select it to automatically go through the phases in 5 second intervals. uses quite a few batteries, but we use rechargeables so it's no big deal. Even my 13 year old niece wants one now. i have no negative comments about this toy. My daughter loves it and quite honestly I do too.
Customer Review: Faulty Battery Casing Summary: 1 Stars
My brother, the uncle of my two sons, purchased this item for Christams. In the excitement of testing this item out they realized the battery backing was not able to be opened. The screw casing was stripped! No big deal, I thought, I would just call the company. They are not willing to replace the prodect unless I pay for shipping. They recomeded that I take it to a local store to replace knowing that it was purchased over 1000 miles away and not at a chain store! Passing the buck. I then asked to speak to a super visor and she repeated the same mantra, "sorry company policey." I never go to the lengths that I am now, but I am tired of companies not performing the basic duties of customer satisfaction. They want me to go to the post office and mail it to them at which time they will determine whose fault it is and then mail me a new one. When I asked if there was any way around said policy the manager told me I could write a letter. So here it is.
