I got this as a Christmas gift for my 9yr old cousin who wanted the spider to (in her words) "scare her sister". She really liked it and played with it for longer than the xbox360 her parents got her, so that's saying a lot. It takes a really small screwdriver to open up the battery covers on the spider and the remote control, but after that it worked great. The range on the remote is at least 30 feet which is pretty impressive, and the feet move pretty realistically. I doubt, however, that anyone would actually think this is a real spider unless perhaps it woke you up : )
Overall it is a fun toy and I recommend it, but I do have a couple of caveats. 1 - The spider is much noisier than expected - whirring about as loud as an RC car - its not going to sneak up on anyone unless they are hard of hearing. 2 - the gears that make the spider move and turn are very delicate. We have a dog, and after a couple of runs over the rug, the spider stopped moving because some dog hairs got stuck in the gears. After removing the hairs, though, it was working like new.
