Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly BeatlesCustomer Review: Disappointingly bland Summary: 3 Stars
My initial impression of this new customized edition of the venerable Monopoly game -- theme du jour, the Beatles -- is less than fab. Compared to other special Monopoly editions, this one seems slap-dash and unimaginative, with fewer in-jokes and wit. I'm afraid Apple took the easy way and treated this as nothing so much as a slick promo for the Beatles' back catalog -- the game components seem drawn mainly from album covers, the same old pictures and titles we've known for all these years. There's not much sparkle in this pedestrian presentation, it's not at all the romp I was expecting from the first official Beatles boardgame in over four decades. Hmmph. All those visuals and lyrics and imagery and creativity to draw from, and this dull product was the best (or least controversial) treatment they could do? I used to work as a game designer in the hobby game industry -- I'd design a better Beatles Monopoly game than this in two weeks and charge nothing, just to see this project done properly. Call me, Hasbro! I do like the Rocky Raccoon token, however.
Customer Review: It had me singing! Summary: 5 Stars
Monopoly is my favorite game, and I own many of the special editions, but the Beatles edition is a MUST for any fan. The properties are albums, railroads are tickets to concerts, cards are Beatlemania and the Fab Four, and money is love (because love is all you need!). The pewter pieces are the best part: Here Comes the Sun sun, I am the Walrus walrus, Rocky Raccoon raccoon, Strawberry Fields strawberry, Octopus's Garden octopus, and Maxwell's Silverhammer hammer--too cute.
The game is not really educational, although you will learn the titles of albums and songs.
The best part is that the cards have lyrics/song titles that instantly have you singing. I recommend playing the albums while you are playing the game. It can also be a fun way to time short games, which is what we did: the game ends when the music stops.
You will not be disappointed with this edition. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: It will have you singing Summary: 5 Stars
I love monopoly ... any version will do, but this Beatles edition is a MUST for any Beatles fan. All of the properties are albums, the railroads are American venue tickets, Shea Stadium and Candlestick Park are waterworks and electric company, and the cards are the Fab Four and Beatlemania (all other spaces are standard). There is no money, but rather "love," which is all you need anyways! The pewter pieces are my favorite part: I am the Walrus walrus, Strawberry Fields strawberry, Here Comes the Sun sun, Maxwell's Silver Hammer hammer, Rocky Raccoon raccoon, and Octupus' Garden octupus.
I had to play a Beatles album while playing, and I was singing every time I picked up a card! It is a great game that is more fun than the original. It is even educational, as you get to know about the albums, song titles and lyrics. I highly recommend this to every Beatles fan, or even board game fan!
Customer Review: Monopoly Lovers meet Beatle Lovers for a "Perfect Pair" Summary: 5 Stars
I will keep this review short and simple: This is the perfect gift or purchase for anyone who loves Monopoly and The Beatles - it is that simple. It all works perfectly here and the creators of this version did a bang-up job getting this game right on so many levels. The pewter game pieces are nice choices, the draw-cards are appropriate and make sense, the properties are cleverly assembled and very cool, and there is even a "quick-game" version that you can choose, if needed.
I grew up with both The Beatles and Monopoly and I had actually looked for these two to meet long ago, and finally it happened (with great pleasure in the product too). You won't be sorry on this choice and if you have or know a Beatle fan in your life - go ahead and pick this one up quickly for them... they will love it.
Cheers, Gary
Customer Review: essential for every beatles and monopoly lover Summary: 5 Stars
Ever since I heard about customized monopoly games, I went NUTS on having the Beatles one! I gave it to my boyfriend as a birthday gift this year, and whenever we have friends over, that's the game we play.
I found it very well done, the tokens are cute as hell (my favorite one will always be Rocky Racoon), the idea of having concert tickets as the companies is very nice. The only thing I thought was a little dull is that since it is a north-american toy, some of the proprieties are albums that have only been released in the USA, and I had never heard of (I'm from Brazil).
But nonetheless, a great way to have a lot of fun with your favorite band. And oh, extra points for the money being made into love. Cause as you know, even in Monopoly, love is all you need. :)
