For a child that does not currently enjoy Nick Jr's The Backyardigans, Austin will not have any special significance. Compared to a typical Beanie Baby, Austin is not floppy or "beanie" sounding. And of course there are no hidden doors or flashing lights or noises. However, to a child who already enjoys playing with his or her "backyard friends" even when the music and dancing from the show is over, this toy has the potential to be a best buddy!
From the time he began to watch the show, my son (now 5) has made up stories with the Backyardigans all day long. Austin, in particular, has gone even to the grocery store with us (even holding my hand when we cross the street). I was hesitant to bring a tiny, real-life manifestation of my son's large imagination into reality. But the price was reasonable, and I wanted to give it a try. For a very imaginative child, it was worth it! Even his younger sister toddles around with Austin when he lets her. The creative play has been helped by this little stuffed kangaroo. I may buy one or two other Backyardigans in the future and see what they all do together.

If you ask me, Austin's a weird looking dude with that long head of his, but he's still cool, and often gets overshadowed by the other Backyardigans. But it's time to shine with this Beanie Baby, and Ty did a great job converting him to plush form. Austin looks nearly identical to how he does in the show, though the mouth throws me off a little still. The stitching on his eyes, nose, eyebrows and mouth is fantastic, and my daughter's didn't have any problems coming unraveled. He's not under or overstuffed either, so unless you happen to get one that quality control might've overlooked, your Austin shouldn't have any problems with a droopy head. There aren't any parts on this that your child could choke on since it's well-made, and the colors will appeal to anyone.
This is a great little plush. If your child loves the Backyardigans, or just Austin, this is a must. Go for it before they retire them!

My daughter is nuts for the Backyardigans. She's got plushies of them in several sizes. These mid-sized Ty beanie babies are the best of the lot. This is a well made plushie - it really looks like Austin - captures his panache (he's the shy nice one). It's very soft and cuddly - yet it holds its shape well. It's tough - none of them have every blown out a seam. They are just the right size too - not too big (they are small enough for the day bag and get carried everywhere - about the size of tot's forearm)- and not too small (tiny ones get lost too easily). I found Tyrone, Uniqua and Pablo in a store and needed to get Tasha and Austin to complete the set for my 1 year old. When they came i was sad that i hadn't ordered all 5 online. The ones from the store were faded and more expensive than the ones i received from online. Tasha and Austin's colors are really bright and i paid about 1/2 the price i had paid for the other ones each (free shipping deal). The ones from amazon were in zippered packages and were shipped very fast. Very satisfied with my online purchase.Customer Review: Excellent Austin Toy

This toy is excellent. It looks even cutter than the cartoon characters and it's very well finished and also seems durable.
Besides, it comes well packaged and shipped in a timely fashion.
About the Educational rate, I selected a low value because it does not seeem to me that this kind of dolls could be so educational, it like playing with a Barbie, the toy itself does not carry the same educational content as the cartoon series could offer.
