In the halls of Higher Learning, getting a degree can be the death of some people. Luckily, some can get up and walk around the grounds for a time, looking for something besides Frisbee golf or another bout of Rush Week. In Zombies 5 you get to go on campus, adding new plaything to your deck that has added in places like a military base and a mall to the already swelling deck. This means Zombie! fun and a sexy new way to play.
Never played Zombies!? Well, its easy. You have a few new rules added to the playlist, but it is basically a game where you try to become the lone survivor in a plague of undead. You do this with combat (6-sided die, 1-3 is an ouchie and a 4-6 is a kill), by running, and by using cards you get to pick to influence the destiny of other players. This keeps on keeping on until the escape piece of landscape is revealed (it changes depending on which game you play), and then a mad dash breaks out and all bets are off.
I love the way this plays because there is no teamwork inside the box. You are alone in the maw of destiny, hoping to stay the hand of fate by feeding it other people. That seems like the way a real outbreak might go to me.
First, this is an expansion pack and you need Zombies! because it all hooks together. Still, it is an expansion set and you do have quite a bit you can do with the game. I love the game because it allows me to take friends and relatives alike and try to give the zombies the nod by feeding them any of six players that are not me. This involves luck, strategy, and gets away from market enterprise games and the like.
Add in a new bag of zombies, dogs, or babes and you have an lovely way to kick it.
This expansion is recommended.
