Customer Review: A balsa plane - the eternally awesome toy

As a kid my dad got to play with these. He bought them for me when I was a kid, and now I buy them for my kids. Sure, it's balsa, so it does break... but no more than many lightweight plastic toys. Plus, these things FLY!
My 4 & 5 year old boys, not the most delicate or careful children, can get about 3 days of play out of a pair, up to a couple of weeks with the application of a little superglue. The kids find it fascinating that they can make the plane fly, and it has improved their understanding of how a different arm movement will produce a different flight. As a grown woman I STILL think these are the coolest toy for an afternoon. Since they are lightweight they can be used judiciously inside (with a big enough room and not a lot of breakables), and they work in large or small yards.
For a couple of dollars you really can't beat them for being 1. Fun 2. (Primarily) Biodegradable, not plastic 3. Battery-less 4. Classic and appealing to adults as well as kids
