Customer Review: It's an okay toy

I bought this toy for my 14 month old son after researching many different pounding toys, both wooden and plastic. Originally I wanted wood, but many reviews talked about paint chipping off after being pounded on. I read good review about this particular toy and found it on sale so I thought I'd give it a try. I found that the balls were very difficult to get through the holes for even myself. I really had to whack it hard and had trouble pushing them through with my hands. My son couldn't get them to go through at all. I was a little disappointed at first by the plastic hammer. Apparently only one side of the hammer is designed for hitting, as the other side is just a squeaker toy. However, my son does enjoy hitting other things around the house with the squeaking hammer.
Luckily I have another PARENTS toy that includes balls and they are slightly smaller than those in this toy. Now my son can get the balls through the holes by pushing them through. Once he gets control of the hammer, perhaps I'll add the original balls again. Overall, I like the concept of it, but I think it would be better for slightly older than the recommended age of 12 months.
