Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly - The Lord of the Rings Trilogy EditionCustomer Review: A fun game for LOTR Fans Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a Lord of The Rings fan. I've loved all the movies and books. I was in ... the other day and saw this game. It was on sale so I picked it up. Lord of The Rings Monopoly is exactly what you get. You get the classic game of Monopoly Lord of the Ring style. It's the dame objective as Monopoly in that you want to control as many monopoly's as you can and you want to put all the other players in the game bankrupt. You can be different characters from the movie to play with. All the main characters are there. The real estate is different places from Middle Earth. The railroads are horses. I thought that one was clever. Lord of the Ring fans will like it. If you like Monopoly and want to play it without the stupid looking guy and his hat pick it up. I'm glad I bought this game.
Customer Review: A big hit with my four year old LOTR fan Summary: 4 Stars
I never thought i'd be playing Monopoly with my four year old, but he trounced me on the first run. This is a great game, and as much as i remember disliking Monopoly as a kid, I love the LOTR version. The reason? The One Ring option--place the Ring in the Shire, and every time the eye of Sauron is rolled, move it to the next property. When the Ring reaches Mount Doom, the game is over, regardless of who is bankrupt or not. This keeps the game from going on and on and on as i remember it doing.
The only quibble i have with Monopoly in general is the play money is so flimsy, and this game doesn't seem to pack well into the box once the money is in the sorter. The lid doesn't fit flat. But it's a great game and our family has enjoyed many hours of play with it.
Customer Review: Just one gripe! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this for our 12 year old boy for Christmas, and with all the hi-tech toys he has, he's still playing this!I also think that the addition of the ring to limit the game time is really handy as I have had to endure many games literally nodding off while my dad tried to accumulate the money he owed to the just wouldn't give up! This game ties in really well with the films and I cannot describe the pleasure I get from owning Mount Doom! (sad I know) My only gripe is that you have to be really careful to move the right piece as they are all so similar in appearance. In the original version it was very easy to tell the top hat from the racing car! There have been quite a few arguments when the wrong token is moved.
Customer Review: Family Fun with a Fantasy Twist Summary: 4 Stars
I must admit that my family loves Monopoly and I love LOTR. This is a great version for us to break out during the hurricanes [I live in FL] for a change of pace.
It is a nice set and if you're into collecting the different versions I would highly recommend this one. One point that I am unsure of is if this is the Trilogy version or not. When movies and marketing span years, one must be careful to check on those pesky details.
All in all a good game with moderately paced game play; however it can take a while to get through a whole game so do not start near bed time.
Customer Review: My favorite version of Monopoly yet. Summary: 5 Stars
My fiance and I collect different versions of Monopoly as we're addicted to the game. Last Christmas I bought him this one as he had just finished watching the LOTR trilogy. Quickly we both became addicted to this particular version. I have never seen the movies yet I rate this version of the game higher then any of the others for a number of reasons. The game is so well put to the Monopoly board, it seems natural to be playing to try to get all the "steeds" vs. "railroads". The game pieces are incredibly detailed and add significantly to the game. I would recommend LOTR Monopoly to all!
