Toys and Games Reviews of Amazing AmandaCustomer Review: Wasted money... Summary: 1 Stars
...is what comes to mind when I think about Amazing Amanda. My 5 year old daughter got it for christmas. And yes, she speaks very clearly!! I'll have to agree with other reviewers who stated that the doll does not recognize her "Mommy" half of the time. "Say my name, Mommy!" I hear that phrase more often than anything else. And then "You don't sound like Mommy."
My daughter can't keep up with her, because as soon as she gets the potty ready for Amanda, the doll will want something else.
Or she'll ask "What should we play, Mommy?" And my daughter will say "Let's sing." Well, about 30 seconds later Amanda feels tired and wants to take a nap.
Besides that Amanda has gone through 3 sets of batteries (and yes, we use Energizer) in the past four days. Rechargable batteries are not recommended for this toy.
As for my daughter... she was very patient with Amanda for about a day. She repeated her name over and over, trying to keep up with her. Now, Amanda isn't being played with too much. My daughter has turned back to her Baby Born doll.
Customer Review: Weird and frustrating Amanda Summary: 1 Stars
We completely agree with all of the scathing reviews of this doll. My eight-year-old daugther received Amanda for Christmas and was getting bored with her by mid-afternoon. Even though we seem to have been lucky in getting one of the dolls with few "glitches"--after one or two tries, we had her programmed--my daughter soon discovered that Amanda "had talking issues" and was very demanding. The doll kept saying "You don't sound like Mommy" and "Will Mommy be back soon?" My husband and I also quickly became tired of hearing our daughter shout "YES!" or "NO!" in response to Amanda's non-stop questions. Within a week, Amanda was parked permanently in a doll crib in my daughter's room. Every morning she would wake at her programmed time (7:00 am) and go through the same series of statements and questions. My daughter refused to respond because she wanted Amanda to go back to sleep right away. Needless to say, I would not recommend this doll for children who get frustrated easily or for older children who will probably get bored with the doll's lack of true interactivity.
Customer Review: Want to waste $100? Then buy this doll, or just throw your money in the street. Summary: 1 Stars
I could not possibly sit here long enough to tell you acurately how awful this doll is. My daughter was so excited to get this doll for Christmas. Then she promptly played with it for 20 minutes, and I understand why. First of all, you have the lengthy set up experience where you set the time etc, but hey that's ok. They don't tell you though, that you cannot ever turn the doll off without having to go through the whole set up again. Ok, back to the doll. My daughter was down right annoyed with her. She talks constantly and is so needy, not fun. Half the time she doesn't recognize "her mommy's" voice and acts weird and the other half of the time she misinterprets what "mommy" said and doesn't do anything right! Like I said, I can't touch on everything, but honestly, this $100 doll lasted 20 minutes in our house. Oh, and like other reviewers said, she isn't even cute. Not even close. Try to talk your child out of this doll, she will just be disappointed and you will be out the money. At least keep your box and reciept.
Customer Review: Most Annoying Toy Ever Summary: 1 Stars
This is the toy my 5 year old daughter wanted most for Christmas, so I sprung for the $ 100. What a waste of money. This doll is so demanding that it's almost like having a real child. Instead of eggs, schools should use this doll to teach teenagers about the responsibilities of parenthood. This "interactive" toy cannot understand what my daughter says, and just seems to want to go to the potty all the time, and furthermore repeatedly states, "I'm sad" when we don't promptly respond to its demands. My daughter gets frustrated and ultimately puts the doll in a corner of the house, waiting for her to "go to sleep". I think she's had all of 30 minutes of playtime in the last month - not exactly worth a hundred bucks. Nor am I happy with the fact that not immediately attending to the needs of this "toy" will result in more demanding statements and "sadness" - what message does this send to our daughters - that they were put on this earth to attend to the needs of others and make them happy? I don't think so.
Customer Review: Worth the money and the set-up! Summary: 5 Stars
Our daughter Lovey just made 5 years old today. After reading the host of reviews regarding Amazing Amanda, I did end up ordering her a couple of weeks ago. Shipping was fast so Amanda stayed in her box, locked securely in my car trunk until last nite when I could wrap her in secrecy and look forward to this morning's birthday surprise! My daughter was extremely pleased and excited to receive this doll as a gift. We took maybe 10 minutes to set her up and Amanda had no problem hearing or understanding myself or my daughter. We took Amanda with us shopping and to lunch and while Amanda did need a lot of attention (especially going potty), it did teach my daughter patience (she's usually the one who is demanding so this was an interesting lesson for her). Amanda is fast asleep and my daughter is enjoying the quiet but I know she's looking forward to tomorrow and the chance to feed, play and sing with Amanda (who's wakeup time was set to 7 AM). :-) Overall, a great purchase and we're very pleased!
