Customer Review: UN-amazing Amanda!
Summary: 1 Stars

I was so excited for my 5-year-old when I stumbled across one of the last Amanda dolls available in all of our state. She'd talked about it for so long, and now she'd be able to have it under the Christmas tree. My daughter WAS excited initially, and after what felt like an arduous setup process, she had lots of fun with the doll, for about a half hour. The next day, Amanda developed some serious facial tics and kept repeating the same phrase over and over again: "Silly Mommy, that's not macaroni, that's lipstick!" The helpline people were NOT helpful. The gal on the phone literally told me to take the doll back to the store. We tried the re-set button, and we put new batteries in and went through the entire setup all over again. In the end, Amanda did go back to the store, because her battery consumption would cost more than a newborn's formula, and because, for all the effort it takes to program her and to train a 5-year-old to "wait with answering until Amanda's lower lip has totally quit moving," the doll really doesn't do much. She offers about 4 different types of activities--eating, brushing hair, "playing" (which is nothing more than the doll singing a couple of songs), and pottying. My daughter got a LOT more mileage out of her My Little Ponies and her Fisher Price Little Mommy doll.

Customer Review: lousy doll!
Summary: 1 Stars

My mother purchased Amazing Amanda for my 6 yr old and it is a complete disappointment! After the ridiculous amount of time and patience it takes to "program" the doll's calendar and clock, it asks to say some words like spaghetti and pizza. My daughter speaks very clearly and loud enough and yet Amanda doesn't recognize what she's saying and asks her to repeat herself. Then it's time to say her name so she can recognize my daughters "pretty voice". After my daughter repeats this process SEVERAL times, Amanda will say "ok Mommy, what should we do now?" When told to play or sing, Amanda goes back to asking her to say her name so that she can remember her pretty voice, and repeats this process over, and over and over again. Then she'll turn around and say, "you don't sound like my Mommy...will Mommy be home soon?". ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TOY I'VE EVER SEEN AND CERTAINLY NOT WORTH $20 MUCH LESS $105.00!!! Oh, and the 3 C batteries lasted less than 3 wks. That might not be that much of a big deal, except my kids didn't play with her that much because she is very frustrating AND...you have to go through the ENTIRE REPROGRAMMING CYCLE (date, time, etc) every time you change the batteries. I just put new batteries in her and my daughter cannot get her to work. SUCKY TOY.

Customer Review: A big disappointment!

My Daughter received this doll for Christmas. We put brand new batteries in her and set her up. Not once did she ever recognise my Daughter's voice. We've reset her several times to try and fix this problem, still not working. Later the same day, she started malfunctioning by moving her eyes and mouth rapidly but not making any sound. I shut the doll off and went through the set up again the next day. As soon as I finished set up, the doll said that the batteries were low and needed to be replaced. So I put another pack of brand new batteries in, and immediately it said the batteries were low again. I reset the doll and went through set up AGAIN. My Daughter got to play with her for a couple hours and then the doll started making a really loud buzzing noise. So I shut the doll down again and went through the set up again. After just a few minutes the doll started buzzing again and startled my Daughter. When I called consumer service, they told me that all this is probably caused by low batteries, even though I put new sets of batteries in each day. I feel that this doll is NOT worth $100.00! She broke after just 3 hours. My Daughter is heart broken. She wanted this doll so badly and now she can't even play with her. I'm very disappointed.

Customer Review: Pleasantly surprised!

This was the ONE thing my daughter was asking for early on for Christmas, and after reading reviews here, I told her that I had read some bad things and that I didn't want her to get her heart set on receiving it if it was not a good toy. Her "memaw" sent it to her and we just opened it up yesterday. After a slightly tedious setup process which really wasn't all that bad, we were delighted in all of the neat things she could do. My favorite part of the setup was when this little doll looked at me with her bright blue eyes and cute little smile and said "Would you like me to observe daylight savings time?" We howled over that one. A word of warning, though. When you set her up, she will ask you her bedtime and her wake-up time. Don't set her wake-up time too early or she will get up and wake your child when you want to sleep in on a Saturday morning! I set ours for 9:00 because I figure I'm always up by then anyway. We were pleased with this toy. You have to remember that she can't hear you if she is talking. You have to speak clearly to her. My 6-year-old daughter is in love with her, as is my 3-year-old son who delights when she "pees" in the potty. I say, go for it. So far, she's pretty nice.

Customer Review: worst toy of the year
Summary: 1 Stars

well first off id like to say that this doll is the most annoying toy i have ever seen. it does not work the way it should. even though i have reset and followed directions to a tee. my 5 year old saw this doll on tv and infact this was the only thing she even wanted for christmas. for 100 dollars anyother year it would have been because i am a single mom. when she opened the present she was soooooo happy. but after programming the doll and it not recognizing her voice, it said your not my mommy she burst into tears and cried and cried. i reset the doll 6 times and it still does not recognize her. she doesnt even play with this expensive doll because she has to say its name over and over and over until she is annoyed by it and tells me to shut it up. we are very dissapointed in this doll i believe that if a toy does not do what it is shown to do on tv this is false advertising. there is no telling how many more kids out there have been so dissapointed this year due to this company misrepresenting this toy. the whole point in buying your kid a toy is to make them happy not make them worry if the next toy you buy them will work properly as my 5 year old now does.
