Toys and Games Reviews of Amazing AmandaCustomer Review: UNFAIRLY Great doll if used right! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this doll, thinking I would need to return it after reading all the bad reviews. I am a 32 year old working mom and gave this doll to my daughter on her 5th birthday, this Saturday, December 10, 2005. I thought the doll was great and has been shot down unfairly. The only way I can explain, is to comment on the other reviewer's comments. First issue is batteries. We have been playing with the doll for 4 days now and no issues with the batteries getting hot or dieing. I bought cheap batteries too? All toys eat batteries but I think the earlier comments were kind of stretching it a little. Second is programming. I found the doll very easy to program and it only took me about 5-10 minutes max. I have no idea why others are taking an hour or having to reprogram after turning the doll off? First you do not turn this doll off, you simply tell her "Go to sleep" after she asks, "what do you want to do mommy"? Then if turned off, you don't re-program, she has the same info already programmed you just need to say yes after she tells you the date and time. That doesn't take an hour to say? To program you simply answer a few questions about the date and time....She will say, " it is December 10th 2005, is this correct"? You say, yes. If it is not, you say No then she will tell your to squeeze her hand when she says the correct month or day.... easy. Third is operation. I believe this doll should be treated like the computer it is. You have to use it properly for it to work. There are key phrases you must say, "no", "yes", "Go to sleep", "Lets play" and "time to eat". I may have them off a little but the booklet tells you the phrases and yes you have to wait for her to finish her question or comment completely then say the proper answer or phrase in a clear voice. My 5 year old went through the set up with me and I explained to her how she works and yes she will mess up or not hear you if you talk over her or answer, "lets play" to her asking for a cookie..... It is a computer, not a real baby. We have not had any issues and I find it very well made. This doll is for a little girl that is well spoken and can under stand how to use her, i.e. waiting for her to completely finish her phrase before talking etc... Not good for under kids under 5. The doll also sings 3 or 4 songs, plays different games like funny faces, tea party, animal sounds and she knows when to eat and when it is bed time etc. People are not using her right or expecting her to be perfect when it is a computer. I say if your child is the type to speak clear and understands how to follow patterns and directions this is a well made doll that does all and more of what the commercial claims she will do.
