Toys and Games Reviews of Toysmith 4M Tin Can RobotCustomer Review: An easy, fun robot build that lasts and lasts! Summary: 5 Stars
Our kids loved making these robots, and put them together in an hour or less with a lot of help from their father. They were 4 and 6 years old when we got this kit and they were not able to make them on their own, even though they are quite proficient at building with litle LEGOS, et cetera. Just a word to the wise, that this project will probably require adult help or at the very least supervision for children who are under age nine or ten maybe?
I am looking at our boys' creations right now, which are proudly on display on the shelf above our computer desk, because they still love them and occasionally pay with them or try to rebuild them. we also took pictures of them for their home school blog, as they were so very proud of their first MOVING robots! Well worth the price.
Customer Review: Poorly made!! Summary: 2 Stars
My 6 year old wanted this - no idea how she found it. It's cute, and that's what matters to her.
Cons:
-Fragile! Thin cheap plastic - it won't last more than a week. Wires are relatively and there is no strain relief at the soler joints. Bolts that hold the shoulder have to be loose to allow the arm to move, but have no locking hardware for the nut.
-Instructions are terrible. Fortunately there aren't that many pieces, and there are a few good photos on the box. No kid is going to build this, unless they're 12+ old (in which case they won't like the robot anyway).
-Not educational, not "green". It's a toy that holds an empty soda can.
Pros: Cheap, cute-ish.
Customer Review: Not As Advertised Summary: 1 Stars
The manufacturers of this product claim that it can be assembled by an eight year old, yet it has a bunch of small screws that need to be attached by an adult, and the screws keep coming loose so that the robot parts don't attach well to the tin can. Luckily my son had a sense of humor about this product because he was really looking forward to building and playing with the robot, but the robot was too hard for him to build himself and doesn't hold together well enough for him to play with it.
What a failure! Do not buy this product.
Customer Review: Grandpa FUN!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a Christmas present for our 12 year old grandson. My husband and grandson assembled this robot together. Although my grandson could not have done this project himself, it was a super fun project. All the parts were there nothing was missing. Well thought out by the designer. My grandson keeps it on his dresser at home, he said that he will show his children one day... the project that he and grandpa built together.
Customer Review: Parts didn't work but were replaced by company Summary: 3 Stars
My son and I put this robot together, and after all our work, it didn't work--the switch was bad. In addition, the screws are tiny and strip easily, and they must be tightened in order for the robot to work.
However, I e-mailed the company and they sent me a replacement switch. Unfortunately, it was the wrong part so they expedited a shipment of the entire kit. Overall, I appreciate a company that stands behind its products.
