Customer Review: Lesson in Frustration

I bought this for my 11 year old son. He was so excited when he opened this present. He ran off to build it on his own (as I had hoped he would, being that he was well over the "age 8 and up" recommendation). He quickly came back looking defeated, telling me the directions are too confusing. I tend to build things easily, often ignoring the directions. This looked so simple I thought we might be able to "wing it". But I turned to the directions and I completely agreed with my son..The directions are very confusing. On top of being confusing if you follow the steps in the "correct" order, they make assembly much more difficult than it needs to be. My son loves Lego and builds complex sets on his own, but these instructions and difficult small screws were neither fun nor educational, unless you need a lesson in frustration. I had hoped that the building of this simple looking robot would be the "gift" (the fun part) because I knew the longevity for enjoying the actual robot would not be that great. Over all we were very disappointed.
