I'm sure there are a huge amount of collectors and fans alike who failed to get their hands on a Boromir action figure before the line of Fellowship figures disappeared from shelves. Well, happily, ToyBiz has begun re-releasing some of the classic Fellowship figures, and they have even improved some of the more disappointing flaws in some select figures!
Boromir, the mighty captain of the soldiers of Rohan, the son of Denethor, was chosen among others to be one of the Nine Walkers to go forth with the Ringbearer on his Quest across Middle-Earth, to destroy the One Ring, thus undoing the plans of the Dark Lord Sauron, and end his reign forever. Though mighty and valiant, Boromir soon fell prey to the lure of the One Ring, and eventually sought to take it from Frodo by force. Recovering from his evil, he redeemed himself by fighting bravely, dying a noble and heroic death to defend Frodo's two hobbit friends Merry and Pippin.
The clothing detail was always really good for the original figure, but the most disappointing feature was the sword the figure carried - it was quite wimpy, bendable, and short, more like a long dagger. But fear not, this is the best improvement on the figure. The sword is now a little more stout, and much more accurate to the prop from the movie. (Most different is the hilt's design, more closely resembling the movie prop) The sheath is improved, as well, but still removable. No noticeable difference in the horn he carries, but it's still really cool. The cloak (removable in the first figure) is slightly different; now clasped at his neck by the broach of the Elves, and it also has a hood folded down behind his head. And the really cool thing is the dagger, which you only saw one single time in the movie, when Boromir lobbed it at an advancing uruk in the battle of Amon Hen. It's similar to the sword, and fits nicely into a sheath at the back of his belt. His shield - still a little light-brown if you ask me - also comes with it.
No collection of Lord of the Rings figures can be complete without Boromir, and due to said improvements, I'd highly recommend this figure whether you've already bought an older Boromir or not. Forget "highly recommend", you really have to buy this figure! It's just cool!
