Toys and Games Reviews of Tiny Love Super Deluxe Lights and Music Gymini Activity GymCustomer Review: Love the gym, but not made well Summary: 3 Stars
I ordered this for our son when he was about 11 weeks old and we were trying to find ways to stimulate him. (I hadn't ordered it prior to that because it's a lot of money for something I wasn't sure we'd use.) I wish I'd bought it earlier! We LOVE the gym - it's got lights, music, a mirror that he loves, and plenty for him to look at - both on his tummy and on his back.
The reason why I didn't give this five stars is that the workmanship is a bit disappointing. The first gym we were sent only lit up in two places instead of three, so we sent it back. (Amazon has a great return policy and this wasn't a problem.) The second gym we were sent did light up in all areas but one of the pieces on the mat wasn't sewn together correctly and was already coming apart. Given what we spent on the gym, I'm really surprised that there were such quality issues.
My advice is: order the gym but inspect it closely when you get it. If our experience is any indication, a perfect product is not a guarantee.
Also, the product description says the gym comes with AA batteries. It does not. And it only takes two batteries, not three.
Customer Review: Must Have for Newborns! We love it! Summary: 5 Stars
(original review 11/2004): Our son is 3 1/2 weeks old and already loves his Gymini Super Deluxe Light and Music activity mat. He enjoys looking in the mirror, listening to the music - Mozart and nursery rhymes and looking at the hanging toys. He enjoys the lights on the mat that light up in tune with the music and the crinkle and squeaking noise that certain parts of the mat and accompanying toys make. Today, he was staring in the mirror making the cutest faces and happy little sounds. The activity mat is great for "tummy time". The hanging toys encourage him to lift his head up. We look forward to watching him grow and enjoy the other developmental features of this product. One thing that we wish it would do is play the nursery rhyme songs for longer. The Mozart music plays for 10 minutes which is great but the nursery rhyme songs are about 30 seconds. Overall, a great value and great for newborns! (and the mat is machine washable)
UPDATE: At 16 months, he still likes it - and it's still the best rated activity mat! We now have a new baby and are thrilled it is still in perfect condition for the new baby to enjoy.
Customer Review: MUST HAVE for Mom and Baby!! Summary: 5 Stars
My friend brought this over when her and her 5 month old son came to visit me and my 1 month old daughter. They laid on it together and both got something different out of it.
I ran out and bought one and it has gotten so much use!! My daughter (now 6 months old) uses this everyday. She went from focusing on the mirror to playing with the toys and even though we bought other Gymni animals to add on she mostly plays with what came with it originally.
Whenever we go anywhere with our daughter this comes with us. It folds easily and is light weight. I throw it over my shoulder and we are good to go! If you unsnap the arches they lay down and you can use the mat to change the baby or let her take a nap.
We went to Florida for a week and packed this in a 26 inch suitcase with all of our clothes. It unfolded and reassembled easily. She did not even miss the rest of her toys at home. I do not know how we would travel to visit so much with out this toy.
She plays independently on this so I have the chance to get a break. I really can not say one bad thing about this product!!
Customer Review: LOVE it, use it every day Summary: 5 Stars
I had no idea how much we would use this item, and how much my daughter would enjoy it. The hanging items gave her something to look at while she was in her first month. In the following months, I feel that she really learned a lot of hand-eye coordination by reaching for these items. At 4 months she easily grabbed them, and now at 6 months they (and other items we added) still keep her attention. At 5 months she rolled over to play with the items on the pad, and easily rolls all over--and off of--the pad. She seemed to spend a lot of time looking into the mirror, which is a good quality one, not too distorted like many other toy mirrors. She seems to discover something new on the gym at each age. Without carpeting or other cushioning, I think the pad would feel a little hard on her back. The bottom pad is machine washable (hang to dry) after a simple disassembly. I'm glad I didn't buy a smaller gym. Drawbacks: the music is annoyingly out of tune, so that we don't use it much. Also, one of the 3 flower mechanisms that can be pressed to activate the music is very hard to activate, so that I even have trouble.
Customer Review: Great From Day One Summary: 5 Stars
I got this mat as a gift from my co-workers 4 days before my daughter was born. Though she prefered to spend time in her vibrating bouncer those first days at home, we occasionally laid her on the mat when she was in an active and awake state, playing the Mozart music for her. After about a month she started trying to reach for the toys. By two months of age we realized that she loved being laid across the mat diagonally so she could easily kick the bottom of an arch, making her toys swing. She would get really happy and excited doing that. The first time she rolled from her back to her tummy was on her mat, pushing off on one of the arches with her legs. Now she is six months old, and still uses her mat every day. She's learned how to turn the music on (not by pressing on the mat, but my kicking at the switch) and she's now getting the strength to pull the elephant down (which wiggles back up once she lets go). The elephant's feet are the perfect size for little fists, but she takes turns loving each toy. They all have something special about them. We even hook them to other toys, of differing brands.
