Toys and Games Reviews of Tiny Love Super Deluxe Lights and Music Gymini Activity Gym

Customer Review: We got very minimal use out of this
Summary: 4 Stars

Don't get me wrong. As an adult buying a toy for my baby, I like this playmat. There is lots to do, the toys are interchangeable and you can buy others to attach onto it. The music, squeekers, and crinkly bits are good sensory objects for baby. But... my son didn't really like it. He played with it more as a newborn (0 to 3 months) IF I played with him. He never liked it for tummy time (but like regular playmats with no toys hanging above) so we used other things. He never got into the music or flower light show. So... there you have it... some kids will like it and other won't. (Note: at daycare, he does seem to like the TinyLove Gymini playmat that is black, white, and red a bit better... so maybe we should have gone with that one.)

So, as a playmat... this item ranks 2 to 3 stars in our house. But, my son does like some of the toys from this playmat on their own... so we've salvaged some use out of this toy. Overall, I would give it 3.5 stars (rounded to 4 stars).

(Side note on "haunted issue" another reviewer mentioned: That story cracked me up!! :P I have to admit that I too was wondering what the heck was going on the first time our playmat went off on its own. I think I jumped about a foot back from the thing!)

Customer Review: You need this mat
Summary: 5 Stars

This mat is fabulous. With it's cute little toys, bright colors and music, it is sure to occupy your child long enough for you to straighten up the room, get yourself a cup of tea, whatever you need to do. It's fun to play with them on it. You can teach them their colors and animals too. The animals are all different colors so you can say "look at the monkey's pink hands!"

It's perfect for tummy time, hand-eye coordination development- my son turned over for the first time on this mat. He was trying to reach another toy and rolled right over!

I got this as a gift from my friend when my son was two weeks old. I started putting him on it then on his back. Even at just a few weeks old, he loved looking around at the toys. He started reaching for the toys at about two months and now at four months he pulls the rumbling purple elephant. He loves this thing. He'll lay there for like 45 minutes. I work from home so this is a godsend for me.

The only thing we have changed is that we got more link-a-doos to make the toys more accessible to him.

It folds up small too, which is great for my city apartment!

This is such a great product; you have to put it on your registry!

Customer Review: Well, the kid loves it
Summary: 4 Stars

I loathe baby things. I hate the garish colors, the noises, the persistent cheerfulness.

But my son looooooooves this gym, so I guess I'm going to have to get over myself. I've noticed this whole baby thing was CUSTOM DESIGNED to get me to get over myself.

But back to the play gym. It's very well made, and as advertised, folds flat into the large plastic envelope. I can't stand leaving it out in the living room, so I do indeed snap it flat and hide it behind a door several times a day. The snaps are holding up just fine. There is lots to do both when he's lying on his stomach as well as on his back. Everything is firmly stitched into place, and it all still looks new despite my offspring's best attempts at destruction by tooth... well, gums... and claw. It washes well. The dangling toys work well attached to strollers and car seats, so we never need to do without the monkey and its delicious feet.

The only thing that is annoying is the tinny music player - it got scratchy sounding very quickly, and battery changes don't help. But since I would rather shove red hot needles into my ears than listen to the "music" even when it played fine, I would recommend one's own MP3 collection as background noise anyway.

Customer Review: We love this!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this item for my daughter when she was about 2 and a half months old. From the very beginning she really enjoyed it. Tummy time became much less of a chore for all of us because she was interested in the mat, especially the mirror. When she was on her back she was fascinated by the toys dangling above her, very soon she was grabbing at them, and now she likes to yank them off the arches and carry them with her. She's 8 months old now, and while she spends a lot less time on the mat because she's mobile, she still enjoys the mirror and playing with the toys that came with it, and anytime we're traveling we take it with us so that she has something to hold her interest.

Things I adore about this product:
Easy to transport or fold flat and move out of the way
Machine washable and line dries quickly
Toys are removable and other toys can be added
Mat is a nice size for little ones, including when they start rolling over

Not so great:
I worried about the musical insert when she started to roll over because I didn't want her to hit her head -- we took it out for safety

Given the amount of use it's gotten, this item is holding up really well and I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Best Money I ever Spent
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is the best product out there for babies. My firstborn was extremely colicky. She cried for 10 weeks straight with at least 3-4 hours of crying each night. At 3 weeks of age, my husband and I purchased her this product. It was the ONLY thing that kept her quiet. She constantly played on the mat. She was so occupied by the animals, that she was rolling over at 2 and 1/2 months! The music was also very soothing, especially at 3 in the morning when this was the ONLY thing that kept her quiet. She played with this mat until she was about 11 months old and was too busy crawling around. The mat came out once again about 2 months ago, when my second child turned two and a half months old. My oldest daughter (age two)quickly grabbed the mat, climbed under the crossbars and began playing with the hanging toys. She claimed that the mat was hers! She now enjoys lying beside her younger sister and "teaching" her how all the toys work. She names each animal, tells her sister the sound it makes, and then proceeds to show her how the toys work. Her favorites are the elephant and the monkey. This toy taught her some of the world animals as well as keeping her occupied. A GREAT INVESTMENT!!
