Toys and Games Reviews of Tiny Love Super Deluxe Lights and Music Gymini Activity GymCustomer Review: Good Overall, but a few issues Summary: 4 Stars
Let's start with the good:
1. Bright colors that my 2 month old daughter really likes. The hanging toys and mat itself really draw her attention.
2. Easy to fold and store, which is great if you have pets.
3. Easy to add your own hanging toys to with the little C-clips.
4. The mat is nicely padded so I can lay it on my stone floor on a thin rug and not worry she will get sore/cold.
5. Best of all, my notoriously hard to entertain daughter can lay and play by herself for half an hour before she gets fussy!
The not-so-good:
1. The arches are pretty low, so almost any toy you hang from it will hit your child's head during tummy time.
2. The toys that come with it are a little lame. Yes, they are really brightly colored and have faces which babies love, but they don't really ring or rattle, which makes them lackluster. Even the toys that are supposed to rattle are so quiet they may as well not.
3. As mentioned before, the music is VERY tinny. My daughter doesn't seem to mind, but it really gets on my nerves after a while.
Still not sure about:
1. I haven't tried to wash it, so I can't vouch for their claims that the mat is washable or whether it fades.
2. The mirror has yet to draw her attention once even though she loves mirrors and it was one of the reasons we chose this mat. I don't know if it is the angle, the poor quality, or just that there is so much else to look at.
Customer Review: my son's favorite thing Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of those gifts that as a first time mom I didn't appreciate when I opened it at my baby shower. I didn't see what the fuss was, and it really seemed pretty pricey for a play mat. Was I wrong! My son is 7 1/2 months old, and we have used this every day since he was about a week old. At first he just liked looking up at the toys. Eventually he started to reach for them. The mirror was his favorite thing, at first we had to position him correctly but he quickly learned to roll to look at it himself. Now if we put him under it he will pull all the toys down to him (into his mouth of course) and play happily, sometimes for over 30 minutes. He also can sit up now, and loves to sit on one side, facing the center, where he can grab at the toys from a new angle and gnaw on the bars. This mat had features we didn't even realize when we got it--I didn't know there was a squeaker in the mat until at 4 weeks my son kicked it! I wash the mat once a week, and it hasn't faded at all (I wash it after he's asleep and let it air dry over the back of a chair overnight). It packed up great for travel, and was a nice thing to have at Grandma's house when we went to visit--helped him feel more at ease in a strange place. We tried some other mats but they never were as interesting to him. Even though he can crawl off it now if he wants to, we find him crawling onto it much more often. I can't believe that I thought this was a lame gift when I got it!
Customer Review: Great for development Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this mat as my first real baby purchase on one of my first days out of the house after my son was born. I was quite sleepy when I bought it did not really know which activity mat to buy but I chose this one and so far it is great! I had no idea how much we would both end up enjoying it.
I initially just put him down on the mat next to my dining room table to see if it would quiet him while I ate breakfast but both my husband and I got drawn in to his reaction to it and now I spend every morning eating my breakfast on the floor next to the baby while he discovers new things and coos. We have used it for just over a week and he has already discovered how to grasp the mirror to move it around, how to kick the bird toy to make a sound (the wings crinkle) and how to reach for and try to grasp the monkey's feet.
After we showed him that he could touch the different animal toys he started to bat at them on his own and now tries to grasp them. He is now just over 6 weeks old (but was more than 4 weeks premature) and I am amazed at how this toy seems to be helping his coordination. I have used this mat interactively with him by playing with objects myself and then moving his hands to the objects and then seeing if he will repeat the action. So far, each day he has learned that he can do something new or improve on something he did the day before, which is exciting for both of us.
Customer Review: Both my kids adored this playgym. Summary: 5 Stars
I searched for playmats online and did extensive research before finally selecting this one. My boy's, now 3 and 22 months both loved this activity mat. The animals are brightly colored, some rattle, others crinkle, stretch, shake, or have shiny surfaces, and can be moved easily depending on your baby's positioning. I loved how easy it was to transport and put away, although we left it open most of the time in the play area. I placed the playmat on foam padding as a safeguard against injuries that happen all to often when little one's get more mobile and start crawling and sitting up. This toy kept my kids very happy and the ability to switch music styles was a great bonus. Once they were too big for the playgym I kept it set up just because they had so much fun with it, evetually we removed the plastic links and the animals and they just played with those. You will not regret buying this item, it is well worth the money! I would also like to add that the mirror was not much of a hit until a they were a few month's old, at first they were just captivated by the animals and the crinkly noises they heard when wiggling around. It was adorable to watch them swat at the animals, the first time my oldest son Jadon grasped an object it was the monkey....ah good memories! I also washed this item several times (my youngest son had reflux and he spit up on it quite a few times) yet it lasted extremely well.
Customer Review: TWIN tested! GREAT TOY! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this gym toy as a baby shower gift. It has been one of the BEST toys for my twin boys. They are 8 months old now and still like to crawl into and out of it. In the beginning, I would put them on their backs in the middle of it, by themselves or together and they loved kicking and tugging at all the toys,(The stretchy monkey and the up-and-down elephant are still the favorites.) then turning them onto their tummies to grab at the pictures on the mat. As they started rolling over at about 2.5 months they would enjoy finding themselves in front of the mirror or on top of the flashing lights. Now, they turn the music on and off for themselves, have studied every feature of the hanging toys, play peek-a-boo with the mirror and think crawling around the cross bars and wrestling on the mat is lots of fun. (sometimes our little shih tzu dog even joins in the action!) The entire toy can take a lot of abuse, washes well (the mat faded a bit, but with twins, I couldn't wait for it to line dry so I tossed it in the dryer. This in no way affects it's play value) and folds up so it is easily stored under the sofa! This is a SUPER baby shower gift and if you don't receive one, I'd recommend buying it for yourself. There's something interesting for every level of early development in this toy and I'm enjoying watching how my boys still find new ways to amuse themselves with it. A+!
