Toys and Games Reviews of Tiny Love Super Deluxe Lights and Music Gymini Activity Gym

Customer Review: A nice surprise
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this playmat as a baby shower gift. When I first got it I thought it might be too stimulating for a newborn. I started putting my daughter on it when she was about a month old. I didn't use the lights. I would lie her on her back and position her so she could bat or kick and animal. We then began using the pad for tummy time by placing it on carpet or a foam mat. Initially I positioned her with a receiving blanket rolled up under her arms near the flower lights. I would put on the music and allow her to learn to hold her head up. Once she was able to hold her head up the lights would then help encourage her to move around. She loves kicking the toys, chewing on them, etc. I'm not sure what other reviewers are referring to about the pink plastic on the bottom of the elephant. The one I have has the same felt on the bottom and feet as it does on the rest of the elephant.

My daughter is now 4.5 months and continues to love to play on it. Although it is not something I had thought of I am grateful to have it. It has a number of different colors and my daughter has enjoyed experiencing the differnt textures and sounds -the music, the bird on the mat that squeeks, the rattling of the hainging giraffe's feet, the crunch of the hanging parrot's wings and playing with the monkey's hands and feet.

Although I was concerned about what it was made from, researching other playmats I was not able to find any that were not made from the same type of polyester fiber. So you choose the best you can.

It is easy to take apart and put back together for washing or travel. I have washed it multiple times in cold water, it comes out clean and has not faded. I do not put it in the dryer but dry it on a drying rack or bannister. It dries within a few hours and drying it would only make it deteriorate faster.

Customer Review: Excellent quality, fabulous entertainment

I put this mat on our registry based on all the good reviews and I can't say enough good things about it. We got another activity mat as a gift as well, the Baby Einstein Baby Neptune, but this one by Tiny Love is far superior in quality, design and ease of use. When we first got it before my son's birth, i was so taken with it, i spent a good half hour just playing with it myself! My son is now nearly five months and has been using this gym since he was a couple weeks old. It's been amazing watching him interact with this mat as he develops different skills.

The mat unfolds easily out of the box and is ready for play right away. The snap holding the arches together in the middle can be easily undone and the arches laid flat to enable baby to nap on the mat. The arches can also easily unsnap altogether when you need to wash the mat. I unsnapped the arches and curved them into my suitcase on top of the folded mat when i recently went overseas for an extended trip with my son. We spent two months out of the country and this Tiny Love mat went with us. He played and napped in it every day and i thanked my stars everyday that I had brought it.

The dangling animals are incredibly cute and creatively designed with eye-catching colors and textures. My son loves to hold the monkey's hand as it dangles outstretched. He has gone from just looking at the parrot to actively fingering its crinkly wings. And he also has great fun with the 3-D elements on the mat -- he can spend 10 minutes just scrunching the big elephant's ear so he can hear it crinkle.

The music and lights are soothing, never obnoxious. I've looked at a few other activity gyms and this one just seems head and shoulders above them all in terms of design and creativity. I'm planning on holding on to this for our next baby!

Customer Review: Not for every baby...but keeping hope
Summary: 3 Stars

I am not really sure what to say because I wouldn't base my review on the actual product. I want to base it on how my baby responds to it. Well, she doesn't respond to it well. First off, I purchased this mat above most of the other mats because of the advantage it has for tummy time the moment my baby girl turned 8 weeks (2 months). My baby is now going on 4 months in a couple of days. My baby HATES tummy time. With all of the colors, the big mirror and the little things that are supposed to catch her attention, she still hates it. Even the light-up touch-pad feature doesn't do the trick. Funny thing is my baby girl loves mirrors, lights, music, and colors, all of the great features that this play mat offers, but she is not fascinated at all. She didn't like staying on her back neither. But I noticed the last time I put her on it (on her back), I was actually able to get things done. She was pulling on and playing with the toys. I am hoping she will grow to appreciate it more. I think her major frustration with being on her tummy is the fact that she is trying to crawl and she is not getting anywhere. So she gets extremely frustrated and angry.

Couple of other things: I am not sure what choking hazard some of the other reviewers were talking about. There is nothing on the toy elephant nor the elephant on the mat that comes out. Maybe this was fixed before I got my baby's mat. I don't know. The other thing is the monkey that is supposed to sling does not. Maybe it is the monkey that came with my baby's mat but it does nothing when my baby pulls on it. However, when you pull on the elephant it vibrates back up. She is not amused by that neither. At first it would scare the daylight out of her. I guess she's warming up to it now.

Customer Review: Best Purchase We Made!
Summary: 5 Stars

(...)this one is worth every penny! My daughter's almost 5 months old and we've had the mat since she was 3 months. At that age, she loved laying on her back and playing with the toys hanging overhead. And since the toys can also be taken off and used elsewhere (on her swing, in the stroller, on her car seat handle) they are super versatile and useful. She loves their colors and easy-to-grab legs and feet and ears. We also had received other Tiny Love toys seperately as a gift so we can switch the toys around a lot.
I work at home two days a week and this mat always gives me some time to work--I can watch my daughter but she is completely entertained by herself on the mat. (The mat's also fun when mommy or daddy look down on you from above the toys or climb in with you to watch...) She gets sick of sitting in bouncy seats and swings too so the mat allows her to move and strech and feel things with her bare feet and her hands.
Now that she's older, the mirror is a favorite part--she rolls on her side and watches herself for long stretches. She also rolls all the way over and the big crunchy elephant ear helped her learn how! It's a useful "grab bar" for a learning-to-roll baby! Now that she hangs out on her tummy, the light-up flowers are finally getting noticed, as are the other on the mat features like the crunchy ears, textures tails, and the squeaker. She also will lie on her stomach on the mat and stare out the glass door and daydream--it's her comfy spot. Sometimes she even nods off! Also--it's easily portable to take to Grandma's. In all, I cannot recommend this product enough! (ps--the only reason durability is not 5 stars is that you can not throw the whole mat into the washing machine, which would be great.)

Customer Review: Sure, it's great, but overpriced!

After reading all of the glowing reviews, I felt I should add my 2 cents. Yes, this is a very nice toy, but I don't know that I would go back and purchase it again if given the chance. My son preferred his swing and other toys to lying in his gym. Even on our bed supervised with his toys, he was much more entertained, and longer, than the gym. He does get a kick out of the lights and classical music, though. Before he had full control of his arms and hands, the hanging toys would just hit his face or bug him, and he seemed overstimulated if too many toys were hanging around--by that I mean scared, grumpy, and some times just uninterested. Now that he can grab, he yanks the toys right off, but if he's on his tummy hanging toys are just in the way. And now that he can roll he's off the mat very quickly.
The one essential element on this gym is the rattle monkey!! I don't know one kid who doesn't love it, my son makes out with it when he's teething (so it must be female-ha,ha)! We have it attached to his carseat, and so many other moms say that's their little one's favorite as well. The monkey can be purchase separately, though.
Tummy time is important, but I don't really think this was worth what I paid (59.99+tax+the wind chime toy). In retrospect, I think the Linkadoos Musical Garden probably would have been more of a hit with my son, and it's so much cheaper!! Also he's 7 months now, and only a month ago I purchased the Leap Frog Learning Gym, which we absolutely LOVE, check that out!! He could have used that alot sooner.
The bottom line is I don't mind spending the money on him if I'm getting a good value, and he's happy. I don't know that for us these two conditions were satisfied.
